View Full Version : picture quality
Not sure if its something am doing wrong but just been watching Viasat Xtra PL and the picture quality is terrible where as if I plug my blade 7000hd in the picture is great
Is the signal strenght good?
If it is then go to menu av settings and check if your xtrend is set to hdmi etc.
Since this is all digital, then signal shouldn't matter. You'll either get a good signal, or blocky/pixellated pictures. I guess the OP is saying that it looks poor quality picture image, rather than pixellated?!
How r u connecting box to tv OP? Are all other channels looking good?

hdmi lead, am at the moment trying to get it off full screen and to letter box mode [i think]to see if that sorts it
When i run it threw my blade bx on the same channel the picture is so much better
My blade box as a border at the top and bottom of the screen that helps improve the screen but i cant get that on my et5000

Menu -> Setup -> System -> Display
In there, there should be an option for pan, just scale etc. Can't remember exact name for setting, but this stretches the display to look awful :p

You saying you can or can't? If can, does that mean it's made it look better?
Sorry on my blade box the picture quality looks so much better but am not sure if its because of the letterbox mode were it as a border on the top and bottom of the screen but my et5000 is full screen and the picture quality looks horrible specially on the none HD channels

well to get letterbox mode on the 5000, is easy, go to setup, system/av settings/display 4.3 content as pillabox + display 16.9 content as letter box
also OSD visibilty can be adjusted to suit ( over scan )
Ive done this and still no just do you think a weak signal could cause it
Picture on the xtrend is fantastic.
Did you try using a different hdmi lead? Some only output 720P, but even still it should be perfect.
It is every bit as good as a blade 7000 which also is a good box by the way.
Check also ur tv, is it 24hz ?
Set your av to 16:9.

Done all that i would have to go with both poor picture poor pixalizatin to Its as if the bigger the screen the worse it looks. The hd channels lol ok its the none hd. Am going to try having the 2 boxs running at the same time and try the box on the smaller bedroom tele
Its as if the bigger the screen the worse it looks.
Well yeah obviously, smaller pictures are higher definition, how can you compare receivers on 2 different teles ;)
I don't know what you doing mate but have the DUO, XT9K and XT5K and can hardly tell the difference in HD between the boxes. The XT is on a sammy 658 and DUo ON TX-P50G20B but before this it was also on the sammy and no difference to my eye and used the HDMI leads that came with the boxes. I have had them on just scale and Pillar and letterbox output as well but no difference is noticeable.:confused:
Well yeah obviously, smaller pictures are higher definition, how can you compare receivers on 2 different teles ;) Am not am comparing them both from the same 50" TV and my blade for some reason looks so much better specially on the none hd channels
The sd channels all look as if am watching the Tring channels
