View Full Version : Channel Master 1.8 and Motek 180 hh motor
Hi can anyone tell me how much a channel master 1.8 actually weighs as ive seen at least 3 different weights and if the above motor will work with the channel master dish,if not is there an alternative i don't want to go down the actuator route again thanks

the channel master alone i would estimate at 10 -15kg max with the metal arms aswell
maybe creaping toward 20 but not very close to it
Cheers silv according to three sources it ranges from 5 kg to 27.6 kg i can not believe there is such a massive difference i would be taking the metal arms off and replacing it with the motek 180,has anyone got any experience of this motor thanks

if you want i can weigh my 1.1 channel master in teh mornign for you that will give you a -/+ 5kg difference avarage
the moteck i heard back in that days was ok for 1.2 not sure of 1.8
If you could silv according to motek it can take upto 27 kg but its better to be safe than sorry

yeah sure i will do my 1.2 for ya in teh morning
Well according to information ive received today the dish actually weighs 53 kgs so that takes the motek 180 out of the picture

wow the 1.8 is far heaveir than the 1.2 over double i'd say
It looks that way after to speaking to someone about the issue they said it could have something to do with pulses and the magnet in the actuator its self,i think he assumed i knew what he meant but it means nothing to me to be honest

the actuators uses a reed switch to pulse the movement
and for a 1.8m dish you need a minimum of a 24inch actuator any smaller will break the actuator
i know even on my 1.2 i have gone through 4 actators being 18inches only now gonna get a Heavy Duty 18inch
you may need a heavy duty 24incher
So something like a 24 inch heavy duty superjack will do will this eliminate the consistent adjustment im having to make when i move satellites i currently have a 18 inch on there thanks

on my god i have broken 4 18 inch actuators on a 1.2 m dish no wonder yr constantly adjusting yr weight of dish is too great for a 18 inch the reed sends a command but the cogs wont move or wont move enough as teh tourque is just not there so you get a false move in effect
this is where you get a move on the receiver but not a physical move on the actuator
get a bigger actuator and you should be ok
in normal use the 18inch has been great for 1.2m but no way you gonna get away with it on a 1.8 dish
Not to sure bud i use the vbox and click left or right to bring in the best signal its doing my head in to be honest lets hope a bigger actuator does the trick can are sponser get hold of 24 inch actuators
edit
ive just found the original box for my actuator and its actually a 24 inch super power jack i don't think its heavy duty could that be the problem would a genuine superjack heavy duty make any difference

trust me having used an actuator for 16 years and still using one i know how they work
especially having broken so many
the click that you get on the vbox is there but the dish dont move sometimes due to being a small arm that isnt strong enough and hence why yr constantly adjusting it
i set up my dads stalled 1.2m dish the other month after being sat there not used and it didnt need any adjustment i found the sats and theya re still all fine now
yr arm really needs to be bigger one other thing is due to arm not beig strong enough the brass sleeve on the arm slips when you make a move that wont move
i seen that happen too where the dish isnt actually moving but the brass jacket where the screw goes in is slipping down the arm
ive edited my post above its actually a 24 in ive got but not original superjack

you could try an original i know superjack, jeager, and other makes perform differently
have a look and see of my second opinion to this
has the brass sleeve slid down in anyway
the best thing for yur 1,8cm is one of them jaygers H-H motors they come with channeal master plate to fix dish and theys good for big fat heaby dishes up to 2.5metres. thingk they stopped making them but u might get a secon hand on somewhere otherwise u need a heady duty 24inch rod motor
