Just out of interest can these drivers be installed manually and if so how?
AJT,
Unzip the file to extract a file called dvb.ko (this is the driver file)
FTP the dvb.ko file to the folder /lib/modules/3.3.8-20/extra/ (it will overwite the dvb.ko file already there), and then do a restart. Think that should do it!

Hello,
1/ Do we need to manually installed them or they will be part of the normal update mgt?
root@gbquad:~# opkg list-installed |grep drivers
enigma2-plugin-drivers-network-usb-rtl8192cu - 1.0-r1
enigma2-plugin-drivers-network-usb-smsc75xx - 1.0-r2
enigma2-plugin-drivers-usbserial - 1.0-r0
oe-alliance-drivers - 1.0-r9
2/ Do we know which new CI modules are supported?
3/ If I am correct to linux open box does support CI+. But are they CI compliant? -I am looking to get support to the Fransat CI+ module, but I don't think this will work.
Thanks
They are already added to the oe-a so when vix push put another update you will get them. In the meantime you can manually install them yourself.
as rossi says they will be in the next build once it's live ( may be out by now but i'm on night shift again so not had the chance to check ).

Seriously? It would be handy if you had a black and white TV I suppose.

HOw many people you know shelling out £250 on a HD box and have a B&W telly:)
imho its a useless feature, colour LCD is a good idea but should have made it bigger
Ahh that's a pitty would of liked this feature. It be great in could display one programme on mini screen and watch another on tv.
Ahh that's a pitty would of liked this feature. It be great in could display one programme on mini screen and watch another on tv.
Why? Its far too small.
small or not doesnt matter, the feature is available for users.
if vix dont want to add it because you think its useless then fair enough but useless or not its not the most useless thing thats been added to vix so i cant see wot the problem is.

I agree, i want to get this working on mine and debated weather to try another image to see it working but was hoping that vix would implement it in the image
this would be great then i can get my binoculars dusted off and have skysports news on while i watch a game on main screen.:D
my hamster likes to watch tv.
Looks like I've wasted £1000+ on a TV!
Seriously though, will anyone really use this feature?
I agree I love it. if openmips have it, it cant be that hard to code to vix. Sorry Andy if sound greedy. But maybe you consider if other wants it
Can someone post links to the GIT commits for this please.
I can't read the bloody text on the screen why the hell would TV on it be useful.
Transcoding first!

Is there any way these new drivers can be installed through a usb port?
My new Quad doesn't boot beyond the red LED so any suggestions would be appreciated.
I've been having issues with the drivers dated the 05.11.2013 with build 793.
If I try to record 2 programs and watch a third ( dvb-s2) I often get one recording working and the 2nd recording failing with a 0:00 timespan. If I try to record 3 programs and watch a 4th I get 2 recordings with 0:00 and one recording working as normal.
The only recording to work is the first one to start.
A reboot sometimes fixes it but only 1 time then the fault returns.
I've reflashed the box without a back up and the fault is still there.
I see there are newer drivers on the openmips archive dated 14.11.13 these contain the same bug.
I've tried rolling back to the 02.11.13 drivers and this fixes the problem.
I've tested it several times with this old driver and I can't get the fault to come back.
Just posting this so that other people can save some time and not have to deal with an angry wife when strictly records and x factor does not
Wait for the next ViX build and test.

I think the link you sent Sicillian is showing the next update to include the drivers dated the 14.11.13. I've tried a manual update of these drivers and the bug is still present.
If I've read that wrong then sorry
I just popped on to say I'm having problems with recordings but without the analysis, so thanks I'll look to downgrade my drivers.
I'm getting quite disappointed with all the tinkering going on. The Quad has been brilliant since I bought it in Spring. Even my missus has had to admit that unlike the preceding kit, it was reliable, fast and very feature rich. However over the last two-three weeks we have had several reboots, audio sync problems, the mini-lcd 'shifts' so that the picture clock is unreadable and now recordings fail.
I hope this is a blip and the GB devs get back to a stable build

I am waiting for my quad this week .
But when i read so many complaints from quad owners i start to regret for my purchase...
you won't regret your purchase. The Quad is a wonderful box, just the software (drivers) can 'spoil' it sometimes but that is temporarily.

You won't regret your purchase the quad is an excellent box. My box has been solid for almost a year its just this last driver update that has caused me issues.
If transcoding ever arrives then the quad will be a massive bargain given its current capabilities.
Hi,
I sold my Vu Duo to buy a Quad, and once I had it set up correctly, it's been virtually rock solid. As dwarf said, if transcoding ever comes it'll take the box to another level. Trust me, it's a LOT of box for the money!

Transcoding allows you to stream movies and live TV internally through your network or externally via the internet at a reduced bitrate on the fly.

Yes, just wondering if the new drivers will actually support transcoding?
Thought it might be a hardware limitation but looking forward to testing next build with these changes...

What are the problems? never had any myself
the problem is : when you set recording before and after to 0 then the second or other recordings have no picture, only sound, or there's nothing at all. (0 recording)
for exemple : starting a recording at 14.00 for 10 mins till 14.10 is ok
next recording starts at 14.10 till whenever, well that recording is not right then. (recording on the same channel)
Set the recording setup to 1 min before and x-minutes after, then there is no problem

yep, had lots of timer recording problems - switched back to driver from 2nd November.
Does anyone have an email address or web page for GigaBlue developers?
UStrange...I tested recordings without any kind of problem. What about your drive? How is your setup? And your situation about your cables? Softcam used? I tested these new drivers a lot coz I wanted to check if almost for recordings they fixed and I can saw they have done a good job. No problems at all now

I had a problem yesterday with a timer recording which was 0 bytes length.
Today, I was recording the 6 nations rugby (from Irish DTT) - checked while recording and the recording was 0 bytes length and wouldn't play.
Stopped the recording then started it again - same issue.
Changed back to the old driver, rebooted, tried again - recorded fine.
The recording problems are intermittent and random - using the 02 November driver doesn't have these problems.

DTT is FTA - no softcams involved. And nothing changed between reboots except the driver. Believe me, the driver is the problem.

I have been using Quads now for 18 months.. and at least 3-4 hours of recordings every single day..
In ALL that time.. I have only ever had 1 recording fail.. It was just a black screen for 999 minutes.. and was a 1 hour recording..
I always us MGcamd 1.35a and ALWAYS use Vix..
ok report it on their website but I have no issues with recordings with new drivers so it is strange

Also... I'm sorry but I'm italian and in Italy there is a provider that is not free so it is the reason why I asked u about softcam. Strange thing anyway, no problems here also on fta even if channels are on dvb-t or dvb-s and also on multiple recordings and providers and tuners...Trust me I testrd it for one week..

are you recording to hdd in the box or to a NAS?
Guys, i have the problem too now, i didn't have this problem with older drivers and i am recording on the same HDD as before.
So it has nothing to do with cam, or recording to a NAS or a HDD inside or external.
The problem simply didn't exist before, now it does.

Recording to an internal HDD
Ahh just checking as I do get the odd problem recording to nas but thats becuase I dont think the hdds have spinned up fast enough.
Just a quick report to say I finally added the 20/1/14 driver by hand today and checked DTS-HD playback. The HD track is identified correctly when I press the audio button but my HD capable receiver says 'normal' DTS
Yup only the core is being passthrough'd

Whatever about DTS-HD, the annoying "random" recording zero byte bug still exists - I updated yesterday and last night had one timed recording - which is zero bytes in length. And the OpenMIPS muppets still bleat about this being "difficult to reproduce". I'd say they find difficulty in reproducing alright...
Back to the 20131102 drivers I'm afraid (which they have kindly removed from their archive.openmips.com forum)
For those that need reminding each time (like me), the driver (the dvb.ko file) needs to be FTPd to the folder /lib/modules/3.3.8-20/extra/

Good point. Also would be nice to know about the recording if it does work. The tivo box only needs 1 tuner tho it records 4 channels. Would this be possible.
