View Full Version : Kodi 15.2 on E2 receivers
I've noticed that the more up-to-date Kodi 15.2 (rather than the really old XBMC from VU+) is now available from plugin feeds from another image for compatible VU+ receivers.
From what I can gather, it looks like the XBMC version that VU did (or part there of it) is open source so a coder of this other image updated it to the more recent Kodi 15.2 version.
Anyhow, I was wondering if it would be possible for Vix to possibly look into including this Kodi 15.2 in their own feeds as they do now the VU+ XMBC plugin?
The other image is also an open-source image!
Are you talking about kodi direct?
That is in the feed
No, it's not Kodidirect. It's actually Kodi 15.2.
A coder has continued the work from where VU+ have left off as the VU+ version doesn't look like it's receiving anymore updates/improvements.
Can u pm me the image name as I'm looking for kodi on enigma2 so no new box needed

What image has it in their feeds?

Why would you want 15.2 when 16.0 jarvis stable was released a few days ago.. ??
What image has it in their feeds? Can I mention it in open forum?
Why would you want 15.2 when 16.0 jarvis stable was released a few days ago.. ??15.2 is still a lot better than the one within Vix feeds still titled XBMC as that's how old it was lol.
16 hasn't been released yet for E2 but I hope it is relatively soon.

Safer to link to their GIT/repository.
And maybe PM the forum name.

Hi,
it is on OpenPLi forum for weeks and only for certain VUs. Look in 3rd party.

ciaoI've noticed that but I thought it was for modded pli images where the dvb proxy drivers have been used instead of normal ones because xbmc/kodi requires gles/dvb proxy drivers and pli, as yet that i'm aware, don't officially use gles/dvb proxy drivers. Kodi within pli is based on the work done by the coder of the other image I believe.
Actually its available on several receivers (not just VU+) on another oe-a image thats (in my opinion) a little closer to ViX .... just not Xtrend ..... So the plugin is in their feeds for the receivers..... Mut@nt is one of them
I've just seen a Vix backup image which has Kodi 15.2 so going to give it a try.
I have seen it too, although it has vix 3.3 version 36 on it.........will wait till next vix image & may try it before flashing my box

Also available from openspa, hopefully our brilliant vix team will come up with something similar in openvix 3.3.......................

they might be part of the oe-a
but they have yet to share anything with the oe-a....
maybe they dont understand the thing they are part of, the clues in the name OE-Alliance.
anyoo, started on something

Does this mean its not available for xtrend units. or just not compatible? been using the Kodi-direct, but would be great to get a more user-friendly interface if possible?
Hi,
XBMC/Kodi are working with gles graphic routines. If a driver of a STB does not support it Kodi will not work.
ciao
I've been using a backup image of Vix with Kodi 15.2 pre-installed that was on another forum and haven't noticed any problems at all either with Kodi but more important with Vix image.

I emailed the developer of that image & he suggested you can upgrade to version 37 by online update ( provided you are not using a cloned box) & you will still keep your kodi 15.2, will definitely try it this weekend.
I was under the impression that 37 had to be a usb flash, with no plugin restore?

That was 036. if you are on 036, you can update to 037.
I have installed modified vix image with kodi 15.2, had issues with networking initially on my box but it was resolved by restoring settings from my previous backup. Updated to version 37 & so far everything seems fine

Im am reading a lot of posts about this "modified vix image" can someone point me to it (if allowed) also, do the vix team have any plans to implement this? can my xtrend et 8000 run kodi? and is this a fully original kodi, i.e. like the one I have on my r-pi android and pc?

Further update, I am very impressed with modified vix image with kodi 15.2, working flawlessly, have got full vix functionality & have been able to update to version 37 with no issues. It has stopped all of mine xbmc crash logs which I used to get on xbmc 13.2 previously. Well recommended

Are you getting 24hz (23.98 fps) playback though?

Set refresh rate on your box to multi, playback a 24hz film and check the input feed to your TV, usually info button.
Set refresh rate on your box to multi, playback a 24hz film and check the input feed to your TV, usually info button.Am I missing something? Wouldn't I expect to playback at a frame rate of 24hz if image is set to multi and obviously the actual thing I'm trying to playback is a 24hz (ie NTSC). Most things available from kodi are more likely to be 24hz.

I have no idea what is this but was wondering if you can have a look at the backup image with kodi 15.2, just to see how did they get round this ? Just a thought...... Thanks

I'm using the backup image and unable to find kodi-ffmpeg as a package name (or any obvious names close to that).
Even using "find", I was unable to find a filename matching *ffmpeg*.
What is the actual filename?
Is there anything I can do to help?

Open a telnet session then enter this.
opkg list *ffmpeg*

opkg list *ffmpeg*
47256I had already tried that but with list-installed as wouldn't it be installed on my box now as I'm using kodi 15.2.
"list" is just what's available from feeds, whereas "list-installed" is what's installed and therefore needed. If I can use Kodi 15.2 and this ffmpeg package isn't installed then it can't be needed!
That make sense?

Better to check what is contained in ffmpeg, backup images are not allowed here but i have created a few myself for the Solo2 with Kodi 15.2 & was simply trying to be helpful replying to this thread.
Hope that makes sense.
If I remember correctly (& that can be difficult at my age:) )Rossi was concerned at the diifferent versions of ffmpeg installed depending on whether it was a normal Vu+ build or one that builds in the Kodi support and trying to find a way around it without messing up normal image builds using the oe-a
my concern about ffmpeg may be wrong, might not be needed at all
i will test tonight

I was just trying to say that I'm using the modified image backup with kodi 15.2 and ffmpeg package is not classed as being installed on my image and Kodi 15.2 is working as does, as far as I can tell, the image itself. Therefore, I don't think it's needed otherwise I would have found it when I initially did opkg list-installed *ffmpeg*. It's only listed in "list" which just lists package available to install (but may not be installed) :)

i will test tonightI don't think it's needed Rossi, as you can see from above it's not listed as being installed in my modified image (although it is available to be installed).

I have just got my Vu+ Solo2 up and running, with OpenVix 3.2.037 installed.
I also have an Amazon TV Fire Stick running Kodi and it would be great if I can get rid of this and run Kodi on the Vu.
From reading through this thread then it sounds like this is not possible with the build I have and I shall keep an eye on this thread for news of when that might change.
Please correct me if I am wrong and it can be done now

No you can do that already, just download xbmc plugin from the open vix feed & install it. Only problem is it is version 13.2 & we are hoping for an updated version in the next image

Thanks - that's very helpful info.
Is it best to monitor this thread to find out when next version is available?
There is a modified image with Kodi 15.2 in it available (use google). The one I use is for Vu+ Solo2.
could someone please post a screenshot of the kodi interface, as im confused if it will be kodi like, or like the xbmc pluigin that I already have, also is this "backup" image ok to try on my xtrend or is it purely for vu type set top box's?
I would love a full kodi install, especially if can get regular updates and "skin it" using the various "all in one" installers available?
not hijacking the thread but I am new to all this... looking to order a new box via world of sat.co.uk I want to be able to use kodi like i do on my firebox on a sat box and be able to view sat tv as well. which box is the best for this... budget 250-350 (with including 1tb hard drive).
Hello everyone.
Anybody knows if is possible to add a favourite in kodi 15.2 on vu+ like on pc version? I.e. in pc version I can go on a movie or tv series, click on right button of the mouse and choose "add to favourite" to create a shortcut to the streaming... ho can I do the same thing on enigma2 version?
Please don't hijack this thread & start a new one if you are having issues with kodi.
Anyways here is the answer you are looking for,
You can do that even on xbmc 13.2. Download keyloger plugin, assign a key for Rt click option & then use the function to add anything to your favourites

Correction you install keymap editor & then you assign a key for context menu

It seems very quiet, just wondering if there is any progress on kodi update?
I've noticed that there is now another modified vix but now with Kodi 16.0.
I haven't tried this image yet!
It works fine and the sound issues on stream playback seem to have been sorted too.
Edit: It wasn't the modified vix image I tried but the INDB4.
Can you add a link to the 15.2 image download?

No links to other sat forums plz
@Rossi, when you were trying this was it based on OE-A 3.2 or the 3.3 that you're currently testing now?
I ask this because there are problems getting the mod image to work with ATV 5.2 but it's fine on ATV 5.1. The only difference, I assume, is version of OE-A core!!

Hi All
I'm running a Xtrend 10K with the latest OpenVix 4. 003 Is it possible to run a full version of Kodi on mine? It would mean I could get rid of my FTV and stop confusing the wife on which remote to use for which box :)
