View Full Version : Is solo 4K the best ?
Hi ,
I am coming from a giga quad + and I am looking for the receiver money can buy.
Is solo 4K the one or is there other ones ?
My use will be 2 cable , 2 sat and probably iptv (I do have pi for iptv too ) .
Many thanks .
It was but the HD51 can do VP as well as HEVC IIRC VP is needed for youtube, it's also slightly cheaper but no third tuner or built in FBC.
Value wise S4K is better.

Hi,
the best will be the Ultimo 4K in a few weeks. I would wait until Xmas because there are some interesting receiver in the pipeline.

Or the GB Quad UHD, due in May.
Solo 4k was too early set in the market, never fully matured, and is now outdated.
ultimo 4k looks like a beast. Would gladly like one of those:thumbsup:

Still a good box though, now a lot of things have been ironed out. Admittedly the 24Hz issue is still present, but the FBC tuners are absolutely fab! [emoji4]

are xtrend going to make any 4k receiver?

Is that official? Last I looked they were supposed to hit this year, but it all went quiet - way too quiet for a major box release due within weeks.
If you want FBC and Kodi now, buy a Solo4K. If you can wait or don't need FBC then the HD51 is due FBC tuners next year and great value now, the Ultimo4k/Uno4K are due with FBC in a few months and the Gigablue 4K looks really great on paper. In 6 months time we'll have a whole new generation of hardware on the market and things will be very different, until then the Solo4K is a great box with a few issues, the HD51 is a great box with a lot of promise, neither are the definitive box of the generation.
The Solo4k lacks codec support (as does every other box except the HD51) for VP9, VP10 is coming soon, it's licence is open and therefore free but HVEC (paid licence) is the standard that everyone is clinging onto, VP10 may change that. The Solo4K is a box that will be due a hardware refresh sooner rather than later, or they may just ride it out as long as possible with the Uno/Ultimo versions.
Sponsors have confirmed Mut@nt are not doing FBC!

Sorry to hijack the post but also looking to upgrade to 4K soon,
What is FBC tuners?
At the moment I have a hd2400 with 4 tuners 2x sat and 2x cable running mgcam , is there any box 4K capable of this setup now or in the near future ?
Thanks in advance for any replies and once again sorry for the hijack , Just didn't want to open another post with a similar question .

It turned out that there were serious issues with the SoC GB was using for the UHD Quad; it takes some time for BCM to correct the errors, so GB postponed the UHD to may. Box will have FBC tuners (optional).

AFAIK the Mutant HD52 will also support FBC-tuners.

Yep, the ET11000 & 12000

any idea if any of these receivers will support 3.5" hardrives?
ET12k is 2.5", ET11K has gone very quiet, was announced last year, I think.

I've spoken with Stef and he's confirmed what I've quoted. Also Mut@nt never promised FBC tuners. I'm sure he will confirm this also.

Full band something, with a unicable LNB you can effectively have multiple tuners with just one cable and tuner in the box

FBC stands for Full Band Capture. Basically enabling you to have 8 satellite signals with the right LNB. [emoji4]

So basically you won't need 2 tuners to record in the same frequency ?
If that is true than it's very good to reduce the amount of cables going to the box .

Now just need to find the right box . So I will only need 1 sat tuner and 2 cable for the new box

You could get the Vu+ Solo 4K and add a twin hybrid cable tuner. [emoji4]

Hi heard that can't run mgcam is this true?
When I sport to wos a few months ago they said the receivers on the market would only work with oscam

That's right, all different frequencies are possible with the right LNB. My LNB is an Inverto IDLU-32UL40-UNBOO-OPP (Unicable II/JESS LNB).

Yeah Oscam only. All the new 4K receivers (ARM processor) will only use Oscam. Oscam is the way forward and is continuously being updated. [emoji4]

I know there are people that will hate this, but fbc tuners are a solution looking for a problem to fix.....,
Yes, there is a niche market but doesn,t support motorised dishes or provide for multiple receivers in the way that a quattro lnb plus multiswitch can handle .... or am I missing something?
I currently run 4 receivers directly off the multiswitch......like to see a unicable lnb do that... but willing to be updated!
Hi,
I am no specialist (Oscam only for >2 years) and untested but there are also gbox and mgcam for arm in the mean time
btw. die 4K has no 24Hz bug she has a general bug switching framerate during playback. Quite annoying:-(

LOL every single tuner STB can do that.....
But you probably were trying to ask a different question.
About FBC: it's a fantastic solution. The tuner has two 'root-tuners' (each with a coax-input) and 6 'leave-tuners'.
Any leave-tuner can (via the setup) be connected to any of the root-tuners, and will have access to all the transponders the root tuner has.
When combining this with the Unicable II (or JESS) setup, this allows for a (theoretical) maximum of 64 satellite positions being fed over a single coax to the STB.
In reality the actual hardware, being on the market for only a short period, is still a bit limited and expensive.
However: even a not expensive setup can be created for a limited number of satellites. Say you're only interested in 28.2E a single Unicable LNB (version one, on the market for ages) costing around 30-60 quid, allows up to 8 tuners being fed independent. So the default Solo 4k with one Inicable LNB and one coax has 8 independent internal tuners.
Also a two-satellite setup is easy and not expensive: two quatro LNB's and a Unicable Switch will again feed the 8 tuners independent of each other, while just one coax enters the house.
Add to that a second coax with a motorised dish, feeding the optional 'conventional' tuner, and you can watch the whole world.
So yes: given the correct setup, a FBC tuner is the future. Especially when Unicable II stuff becomes more affordable.

Unicable lnb is 4x price of normal lnb!
Unicable switch is really expensive.
So looking at option 2 for 2 sats you have 8 cables going into a unicable switch and 1 cable out for the single receiver to give 8 feeds ...... and you still have the 2nd cable for the motorised.
Given that for one receiver its a good deal, but what about my other 3 receivers?

A Unicable LNB is cheap especially when you consider that one is enough for 8 tuners (and needs only one coax).
What about other receivers? Well, difficult to give a general answer, but Unicable II will be very useful (especially when they become affordable).
And for a one-satelliet setup a Unicable II LNB is already available and not expensive at all, allowing to feed 32 tuners with one coax.
The one-coax lead for multiple tuners can be an enormous advantage: not everybody has the option to get one coax per tuner into his house.

e.g. have a look at the Unicable II LNB IDLU-32UL40-UNBOO-OPP : suitable for 32 tuners, and available for under €70.

No, you don't need a switch.
One Unicable II LNB on 19E. Another Unicable II LNB on 28E. Both connected to single cable. When you install you "tell" the LNB that is aligned on 19E to only respond to requests for 19E. Same for 28E. At the other end you split as required to distribute to all your receivers.
Now any STB can access any Unicable LNB over the single cable.

.... When you install you "tell" the LNB that is aligned on 19E to only respond to requests for 19E. Same for 28E. ....
But IIRC for that 'telling' you need a rather expensive programmer.
The programmer is cheaper than a switch. Pin money for an installer. Once you have the prgrammer you could have a proper complete multisat system over a single cable without a switch.
Main problem with Unicable is one resident in the system can adjust their STB setup and cause SCR collisions for other residents.
