View Full Version : Questions about Tuner Configuration - Unicable/Legacy
I've been reading with interest the many threads on Unicable/FBC, etc mainly from this Forum so thank you :)
However, I also found the following wiki page:
https://wiki.vuplus-support.org/index.php?title=Tunerkonfiguration_Vu%2B_Solo_4K_m it_einem_DVB-S2_Dual_FBC_Tuner
This was based on VU+ but principle is same as other comparative boxes.
The thing that caught my eye is the section on Unicable (https://wiki.vuplus-support.org/index.php?title=Tunerkonfiguration_Vu%2B_Solo_4K_m it_einem_DVB-S2_Dual_FBC_Tuner#Unicable_.2F_JESS_f.C3.BCr_eine_ Satposition).
Now this wiki is pretty much as mentioned in the extensive guides on this forum, albeit with one thing I noticed different...
The Wiki states the "Connected to:" option should reference the Tuner letter before current one and not all connected to Tuner A. Eg, Tuner C must therefore read "Connected to B", Tuner D "Connected to C", etc.
Does this make a difference as it clearly states they shouldn't all reference Tuner A?
As far as I remember this was the requirement (daisy chaining) when Vu+ had the 1st FBC tuner receiver, but then the setup requirements were changed to the current setup
Abu said in a previous thread that daisy chaining used to be used due to a bug.

This was a recommendation (which didn't help) before the drivers were fixed a few years ago. Now Vu+ FBC tuners stay powered 24/7.

PLI/Vix, you now only "connect/share" from a tuner that is capable of having a signal wire. You won't have an option to daisy chain.
The daisy chaining logic was flawed anyway. What happens if you have two unicable devices? One hooked up to tuner A and another hooked up to Tuner B. There is no way to set them how you want. Even worse, what happens if a tuner in between stops being used?
I'm thinking of buying a GT-Sat GT-S3DCSS24 (https://www.world-of-satellite.co.uk/satellite-and-terrestrial/universal-and-unicable-lnb/gt-sat-gt-s3dcss24-unicable-lnb-3-legacy).

I don't know how many outputs your current LNB has but one I'm thinking of buying myself is GT-Sat GT-S3DCSS24 (https://www.world-of-satellite.co.uk/satellite-and-terrestrial/universal-and-unicable-lnb/gt-sat-gt-s3dcss24-unicable-lnb-3-legacy).
Do you need the legacy outputs?
Do you need the legacy outputs?Me, personally, yes for another E2 device I have in another room and one spare legacy to play with :)

Why can't you use unicable on the other devices?
P.S
Maybe we should move these posts into their own thread?

A lot of people seem to think that y9ou need FBC tuners for unicable. This is wrong. Even a a DM500 will work with a unicable device depending on image used. An image without the code wont make use of the technology.
The only reasons I think someone would need a unicable LNB with legacy ports is if they need a diseqc switch or are using a receiver/device that does not support the Unicable/Jess (unicable 2) protocols.
I attached a diagram here of multiple non-FBC tuners here:

Getting off topic.. can one use the cheap satellite finders (10 GBP Ebay prices) to set the position of a dish just using the unicable output or is it better to have a legacy output which can be used for this purpose?

I am not sure. I read something a while back about them being in a certain mode to allow for alignment. I am sure our search engine @CCS will find the post. I can try on my LNB when it warms up in a few days for you.
However, certainly cheaper to use an existing LNB to align dish, then swap LNB over.

DiSEqC switch for what?
What else would you use a diseqc switch for?
Edit:
I attach a picture of the benefit of those who are genuinely interested.
If you want 19.2 and 28.2 on the same system put a Unicable LNB on each and combine onto same cable. No need for legacy or DiSEqC.

What do you need to combine the 2 feeds, is it a specialist item for unicable?
Have a look on Inverto website and you will find combiners.
Web you buy a Unicable LNB it ignores the "position" command and wakes up whatever "position" command it is sent.
Plug in the programmer and you can tell it which "position" command to respond to (1 thru 4).
So you cam have multiple LNBs on the same cable and each responds to its own "position" command to know the command was meant for that particular LNB.
