Vu duo red light help plz

Hi guys

I have an original vu duo had it for about 3 years all working fine on Vix. Updated to latest vix couple of months back and all working fine. It now has the red light on the front screen and wont boot up at all.

Could someone please advise thanks. Spent over £500 when I first bought it :(
 
'latest vix couple of months back' could mean anything.
Menu -> Information -> About will give you the actual build number & is a lot more helpful in diagnosing any issues.

Obviously you can't see that sreen now though?
Have you tried a bootoader flash along with image flash? latest available on http://www.openvix.co.uk/

Red light on boot up does sound like capacitor issue though.
Try bootloader & image update first before you get the soldering iron out...
 
Hi

Having done a reflash if your usb works the normal signs are the box wont respond to usb or null modem cable, the its a self cap change as mentioned or look for satellite /tv repair shop who will do the cap for you mine is working fine since being repaired

Tried boot loader flash and image flash both had no luck.

Have sent it for capacitor replacement hopefully will do the trick

This is the capacitor fault for sure. Red light with no box booting. Only Hdd is spinning.
Capacitor C807 (on motherboard) 220uF 16v should be replaced by a new 330uF 16v (since this has a little more headroom for power).
I easily replaced this myself. A tip for a clean but not that neat looking job, is to just cut the leaders close to the old capacitor with a plier
and then use the old capacitors leaders to solder the new one back on. Remember to get the + and - right :-)
Don't look like a pro job but it works with no risk of overheating the motherboard and its circuits.
(Not the best English either...)

son inlaw tested the capacitors and said there fine so must be the psu
i think ill bin it and get a new one.
anyone recommend anything as i normally just stick to vu+
