I am trying to flash my box with the latest version. The box does not recognise the USB stick, I have reverted back to an original stick that I knew worked, with an older version on the image on 5ish I think. The box does not recognise this one. It boots up to a Openvix screen, i think from the hard drive, but I cannot do anything from there.

I can see the cox on the network and can connect to it and see the files on the hard drive. I have a backup image on the box could I just extract that and copy the files back onto the hard drive?

thanks in advance

Online flash the box.
Short press Blue button -> ViX plugin
1. BackupManager - backup settngs(although this should eb default for next step)
2. ImageManager —> Yellow button download latest image from OpenViX
3.Blue button -flash image
4. On reboot select settinsg backup and install plugins
5. Image should be latest with your settings restored

There is more than one way to update see......

With the USB stick method.
Put the box into deep standby and switch the box off at the mains.
Remove all USB connected devices and just plug in the stick with the upgrade
Switch the box on via the mains
If you get the prompt to press something like the OK button it is the control on the box and not the one on the remote.

The Box now sees the USB stick and must be accessing it as the light on the stick is flashing. The screen goes from the initial VUD+ to Openvix and then stops there. There is no access to the box using the remote control and therefore no menus! I have left it in this position for 10mins, should it have worked by now ?

is there anyway I can put it back to factory settings?

Just make sure that you downloaded the correct upgrade for your box. Different models have different upgrades. For instance, do you have a VU+ Duo4K or a VU+ Duo4K SE
https://www.openvix.co.uk/index.php/downloads/vu-plus-images/

Make sure that all you have on the USB stick is the upgrade and in the format and described in the flashing guide
Code:
https://www.openvix.co.uk/openvix-builds/Guides%20and%20Tutorials/Flashing%20Guides/VU+%20USB%20Flashing%20Guides/How%20to%20flash%20a%20VU+%20Duo%204k.pdf

(substitute v6.2.011 for the version shown in the guide)

Re-flash again. Note that the box may be unresponsive and not display anything on the front panel for a couple of minutes during the upgrade - whilst you are watching this seems like an eternity :(

no luck, tried with different sticks and different formats, the sticks light up but not sure the info is getting loaded into the box HELP! please !

OK - in post 1 you say you can access the box, so if you can telnet into the box using putty for example
1 enter login (this will be root) if it asks for password, whatever you last used.
2. enter enigma2
Post the output or extract from towards the end

Do you get any front panel indications that the box is being programmed? Albeit for the SE version of your box the Youtube video gives some indication of what you may expect.

Have you tried --- after flashing turning off the at mains switch and leaving it off for 2 minutes (to let internal power supplies fully discharge) before turning the box back on. There is a very small chance that the software has crashed and removing the power (and waiting for internal voltages to discharge) gives the box a clean cold boot on the next switch on.

Sorry what file should i be looking at in the enigma2 directory?

I do not get any indications from the front panel and I do not et asked to press the power button

Your box is not booting to an image fully, you are not having success flashing by USB. There are now three options:

1. Using Putty, start enigma2 in console mode and see what is wrong. Then fix it so Enigma2 starts.

2. Using Putty, flash image using grog's script.

3. Transfer unzipped image to receiver using FTP like Filezilla. Then flash image using Putty.

The chain of advice at the moment is option 1. Please have at pictures in this guide first:
https://www.world-of-satellite.com/showthread.php?40948-How-to-use-Putty-for-Unix-Linux-commands

Download Putty, then do as the pictures show. Then enter/input/type these following commands. Best you copy and paste them.
init 4
enigma2

It should halt at the error and we can help you go forward once we know what the problem is

MANY THANKS!! The cycling of power seems to have fixed the problem, and it has now been upgraded successfully. This time it asked me to press the power button, I also put the USB Stick in the front of the box.

Next problem is the motor off to the site to buy a new one!!!

A big thanks to the team for helping me. The powering off the box for a couple of minutes seemed to work. After switch on it read the stick and asked for me to press the power button to confirm, after a couple of minutes success! That's the good news, the bad news - looks like my motor has stopped working! I ordered one and it has been promptly delivered this afternoon! Not sure if there is any way that I can check it from the box!?

Again a big thanks for all your help, I have also made a contribution to running costs

I know, solved and all that, but just wanted to mention it, incase some people still would have a problem / might be uncomfortable with Putty etc. (like me).

On my VU+ Ultimo4K (months ago), I opened it up and unplugged the installed HDD, then connected the USB that was failing before, and it did continue the install.
(I found that info in an old thread, and just want to mention it here, so people might not need to dig that deep)
