Octagon SF8008 Supreme supplied by World of Satellite with VIX image 6.6.005 ready installed and setup for Freesat UK.

When replaying previously recorded videos the fast forward does not work correctly, for example when set to x2 by one press the speed is much faster than it should be, probably near x64. Each press of fast forward then reduces the speed. The problem is not consistent, sometimes it works correctly, it can also seem to change with different videos and also over time with the same video.

I have never used fast forward or reverse and use 3,6,9 or 1,4,7 for jumping.
Maybe others will say.

Same here. I use jump rather than fast forward

If watching a recording or in timeshift the 3, 6 and 9 buttons on the remote give jump forward by different amounts, the 1, 4 and 7 buttons are jump back.
The times of the jumps can be configured in menu/setup/recordings/playback and timeshift/playback/customskip time for 1 and 3 button = xx seconds
Also when in timeshift useful for jumping adverts.

Yep - same for me. I use a Gigablue Quad+ and it was never satisfactory in FF or REW mode. I always use the 3/6/9 jumps forward. I have them set for 15secs/1 minute/4 minutes. ITV and CH4 ad breaks are nearly always exactly 4 minutes:D

Possible because the way that digital TV is broadcast and the amount of compression and/or movement in the picture. The full picture information isn't broadcast in each frame period and any fast forwarding may rely on hitting the reference frames (i frames) which may be spaced apart differently in time depending on scene content and/or TV channel. This may explain why something like a fast forward x2 looks different for different recordings.

Do you get a seek bar on the screen when you press fast forward when viewing a recording? The seek bar shows how far you are through the recording. The bar should indicate the fast forward/backward speed and which direction the control is set at.

Are you saying that on first press of a fast forward this indication shows x64?

I take the point about 3,6,9 and 1,4,7 - thanks for that and it works correctly ie 15, 60 and 300 seconds. FF on the same recording is not correct.

I have OpenATV installed in another slot and FF consistently works correctly on the same recording.

I get the seek bar when FF is pressed, it shows the speeds correctly ie x2, x4 etc. It's the actual speed which is incorrect. More often than not the x2 speed is actually about 1minute per second ie x60 - but it's not consistent.

I can believe that the I-frame positioning can have some effect on FF, but it doesn't explain the inconsistencies I see.

The drivers on the GB Quad Plus are the bogey for me. It's not just the B-frame I-frame issue. If I mess around with FF or REW, then the sound goes out of sync. Has been happening for the 10 years I have owned the box! Other than that, it has been a champ - almost never fails to boot from deep standby to record! Original 1TB 2.5" disk still in operation. Two DVB-T and two DVB-S tuners. I don't know what I'm going to get to replace it when it eventually dies!

I flagged this (bug) up because of the very recent appearance of the SF8008 Supreme. I assumed that the version 6.6.005 would be the same for both sf8008 and sf8008 Supreme boxes even though the hardware is different to some extent.

I understand that because of the very many boxes to support it would be very difficult to keep up, however I thought I should flag it up.

A coffin? it was a good long lasting unit . Not making these things like they were. :amen::confused:

Apart from being a bit slow to load (a bit like myself!), it's still running well. Great box for Irish market which needs DVB-T/DVB-S combo receiver.
