[VU+ Duo] Freezes without log

Hardware:

• Internal HDD Western Digital WD5000AAKX Caviar BLUE HardDisk
• external UBS stick (removed now for testing purposes) Verbatim Pen Drive Unità USB PinStripe 8 GB
• DVB-T usb tuner WinTV-NOVA-T-stick-HD

Software (all from VIX feeds)

• OpenVPN
• CCcam 2.3.0
• Cacheflush
• dib0700 driver for WinNova
• Magic-HD-Noire skin

Swap Memory enabled (tried both on USB drive and on HDD, 256 MB and 96)

It has been about two month since the receiver started having spinning VIX logo so yesterday I decided to make a clean flashing:
formatted external USB drive
removed epg data from hdd as well.

Right yesterday I flashed the receiver about 3 or 4 times making various attempt.

The last flashing was made yesterday nite and than manually downloaded crossEPG (Skyit+XEPGitaly+Alias script)

Right this morning I found the receiver freezed at 2:50 AM just when I scheduled a recording (the epg timer is set at 6:00am).
So I had to switch it off. At restart I noticed that the EPG data was not populated, and no peg.dat was on the hdd.
Neither I was able to found anything in the internal flash memory (nothing in the root, etc, or usr - or should I check elsewhere?)

I'm really going crazy about this since it's not usable.

I would bet on EPG issues... because the datas are above 10MB, but if I quit with all of them I would end with no info at all...

My other Duo is on Apollo 071, has the very same configuration apart I've not installed on it a DVB-T tuner.
And has no issue since months...

If it is an old VU+ Duo1 try replacing the capacitor - there is long thread on that subject giving full instructions.

If you have a VU+ Duo1 bought in the past year or so it will have the latest board and will not be affected by the old failed capacitor problem. In that case I can't offer any suggestions.

I already replaced the capacitor 6 months ago.
And as said it seems like something related to operating issue.

Just to make it more clear:
many times happens that on channel changing the vix logo starts to spin forever.

Look again at the Red Light/failed capacitor thread. Some people posted that a rectifier could also fail, and might need replacing.

Your symptoms suggest a hardware issue. Given the detail in your first post I assume that you have set up EPG and recording correctly - that is using the hard drive/USB drive not the flash memory.

it's not a capacitor issue for sure.
Maybe I mislead you by using the therm "freeze". Actually the Duo went in a sort of perpetual spinning loop.

And you know what?
I've installed the Italysat 7 vu+duo 7.0.156 image and the receiver is working smoothly since 5 days. No lag, no spinning logo, no crash at all.
So I'm just wondering what started causing this issue on Apollo releases beyond build 071. (as said I'm still using 071 on another receiver that is running on for months without any crash and need of restart).
I'm mostly suspicious about something that is consuming RAM. But as said no log is generated and therefore I cannot post anything detailed here.

If debug logs are enabled, a log is being created.

What you mean? All my DUOs are original receivers.

actually this was the other strange thing. That everytime I did not found any log.
Anyway. As sais at present running on Italysat everything is fine.

Next week as soon as I'll be back from a work trip I'll reinstall the latest VIX and check again for debug logs.
I'll let you know.

I agree with judge, my vu+ duo and my xtrend et5000 are doing exactly the same things, with vu logo spinning ) for seconds between changing channels and crashing during the night when no one is watching it, 2 days in a row now since I started using it again,

I feel its a performance issue, with the duo not having enough ram and processor to run image properly now,

What you think guys?

Do you have a swap file setup on your Vu+ Duo? This will help with memory issues like the Duo or Solo.

Hi, yes I have 256mb swap file, which makes absolutely no difference, I just think the I.age is to much for the vu+ duo nowadays

I have 2 x Vu duo's running Apollo build 125 perfectly so it's not the performance of the receiver. I had a similar issue with my Vu solo with a constant Vix spinning logo and found it was my external hdd causing the problem, replaced hdd and all good now [emoji106]

As I said this issue is affecting my Duo only with latest Vix Apollo build.
No similar issues with Italysat.
