GB UE 4K suddenly fails boot at step 49

Hi,
My GB UE 4K bought in 2021 has been working perfectly until now but suddenly fails to boot as of yesterday, stalling at step 49 and freezing there. I used Willobuild to load OpenVix 6.4 initially and have installed all latest SU (10 or 11 I believe) but cannot even reinstall using their remote installation script via Putty. I just drops out of the scrip after I hit return when asked if I use multi image which I don't.
I can access the box using Putty and login to the unix port ok and can see various directories it just won't boot up or reload. Could it be my internal HDD has become faulty or something not mounting correctly? I'm not really sure how to investigate this.
I have tried powering off many times.
Any advice? I am thinking of trying a reisatall from USB but thought I'd seek advice from you first.

so putty into the box, login
then type
init 4
enigma2
.... and see why it stops from the displayed log.

Hi twol,
I did that and saved the output which didn't mean much to me BUT I can now perform a reinstall from Willobuild remotely and it boots up ok.
All up and running again so I assume there was something screwed up in my settings. I'll keep the default ones for now and see how things go.

Sorry for replying to an old thread, but I've run into this issue when trying to online update my GB UE 4K today. It will not get past 49. I've tried re-flashing from USB but that isn't working for me either, the message pops up "press power within 10 seconds" (which I did) but then the LED lights red and the TV screen goes blank. I've left it for a good 15 minutes but it isn't doing anything.

If I try to boot it without the USB it always stops at 49. I can ssh into it.

Any tips on how I rescue the situation? Twol, I know you have one of these and you've been very helpful in the past.

Yes, not having any luck with that. Tried a couple of different sticks and several versions of Openvix. It seems to recognise the USB stick and says "press power in 10 seconds" , but it doesn't do anything.

I was thinking it might be the USB sticks I'm using as I only have two 8GB and I know it isn't recommended to use larger. However, I put a Gigablue factory image on one of the sticks and that flashes ok. I can't get any of the openvix images to flash though.

By gigablue image I huess you mean teamblue?
If so copy the openvix zipped image to hdd and then find in teamblue flash online and select the openvix image.
Then flash it.

Do I need to go through the set up process on the teamblue image or is there a way to short circuit that? I got it here, by the way

I've tried about six versions from https://www.openvix.co.uk/index.php/downloads/gigablue-images/gigablue-uhd-ue-4k but none will flash from usb for me.

If teamblue flashes then just flash, get network up and copy over openvix image then flash it…. No need to setup tuners etc.

Hmm.., might be me being thick but I cant see anywhere in the menus referring to flashing.

I'm not convinced this is teamblue. Pretty sure it is the default gigablue image like when it left the factory.

The other way depending on age of box, is holdpowe button while switching on and wait for updt to appear then flash from download web site choosing openvix

Holding the power button doesn't seem to do anything. I've tried quite a few different images now, teamblue, ATV and openvix on two different sticksUSB and all I get is a blank screen. The only image which I can get to flash is the one I linked to earlier https://www.gigablue-support.org/factory-new/index_htm_files/gigablue-1708-gbue4k-20171103_usb.zip but once I boot into that there is no option in there for flashing from HDD so it isn't helping me much.

I might have to order some USB sticks off amazon, but I doubt it will help as that old image (linked above) does flash. No idea what's going on but the other half isn't happy as none of her TV is recording tonight.

For images after Aug 5, 2024, there is a really nice update of the Rescue Loader to version #200 for the above boxes, that allows either recovery to a different STARTUP slot or reflash and boot an image.

New in this version:
Selection of the startup partition.
Uploading an image from your PC and flashing it to one of the startup partitions.
Downloading an image online and flashing it to one of the startup partitions.
Displaying information such as MAC address and bootloader version.

To install:
Unzip the appropiate box (gbquad4k, gbue4k) file and copy the rescue.bin...

I have had to give up for this evening as the family want the TV. But tomorrow I am going to try this by extracting the rescue.bin from the latest openvix image. It was probably already installed before I flashed the factory gigablue image I found earlier, but the rescue.bin in that archive is dated 2017 so it probably won't work unless I put a newer one on somehow.

I've never had any issues with online software updates until today. Very frustrating that USB flashing is letting me down too :-(

Yes, thanks Twol, I finally managed to recover it this morning.

Holding the "up" button while starting allowed me to connect via HTTP where there was a "flash firmware" option. I tried that and selected the latest openvix zip on my PC but it failed with "413 image too large" (or words to that effect, can't remember the exact message). At this point I thought I would update the rescue.bin as I think my last successful flash put a very old version on. I guessed the easiest way would be to copy it to the GBUE from a USB stick, so I unzipped the latest openvix zipfile onto a USB stick and the moment I plugged it in the box started flashing itself with no input from me. No idea why I couldn't get it to flash by simply rebooting with the same stick last night, but I assume something had gotten itself badly corrupted?

Restored everything from last backup and all is well again. This is the first time I've ever had problems updating online and I do it every time the box tells me there is one available. Cheers for the support, as usual.
