Guide how to install Ondemand apps (iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4, My5) on Android TV media streamers

We've had a number of customers asking us how to install On demand apps on Android TV and Google TV certified media streamers. Even though media streamers we stock like Mecool and Dcolor and either Android TV or Google TV certified they do not natively support all the On demand apps. Even the expensive Nvidia Sheild Pro doesn't natively support all these apps.

If any members have easier ways to install these apps please post in this thread

We've tested these apps and install procedure on the following media streamers:

Dcolor GD1 - Android TV
Dcolor GD 2- Google TV
Mecool KM2 Plus - Android TV
Mecool KM2 Plus Deluxe - Google TV
Mecool KD3 - Google TV
Mecool KM7 Plus - Google TV
Mecool KM9PRO Max - Android TV

Even though the above media streamers are Netflix 4K certified for some unknown reason they're not fully licenced for the FREE ondemand apps, a above even the expensive Nvidia Sheild Pro model isn't.

Note this thread will be work in progress and more will be posted.

Step 1 - Log into Google Playstore and install 'Downloader'.
Step 2 - Give Downloader app permisions to install apps.

To install BBC iPlayer:
1) Open Downloader app > In the URL field enter:

https://letscrackon.org/downloads/

2) Scroll down to BBC iPlayer Android TV and press ok over it. The apk will download to the Downloader folder. You can now install this from the download folder. Android TV version works on both Android TV and Google TV certified devices.

To install ITVX:
1) Log into Google Playstore and install 'APKMirror installer Official' and give this app permissions to install apps.
2) Open Downloader app and enter URL:

https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/itv-plc/itv-hub-your-tv-player-watch-live-on-demand-android-tv/

Select the latest version of ITVX and download the APK.
3) Open APKMirror app, navigate to the Download folder and install ITVX.

To install Channel 4:
1) If you don't already have APKMirror installer installed log into Google Playstore and install 'APKMirror installer Official' and give this app permissions to install apps.
2) Open Downloader app and enter URL:

https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/channel-4-television-corporation/channel-4-android-tv/

Select the latest version of Channel 4 and download the APK.
3) Open APKMirror app, navigate to the Download folder and install Channel 4.

MY5 seems to be supported on most Android TV / Google TV certified devices via Google Play store, if its not see the guide below.

To install MY5:
1) If you don't already have APKMirror installer installed log into Google Playstore and install 'APKMirror installer Official' and give this app permissions to install apps.
2) Open Downloader app and enter URL:

https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/channel-five/my5-channel-5-android-tv/my5-channel-5-android-tv-4-21-0-release/

Select the latest version of MY5 and download the APK.
3) Open APKMirror app, navigate to the Download folder and install MY5.

That's covered most of the On demand apps.

Zero Tier is similar to Tailscale but open source.

The best way to describe it is that if I have Zero Tier installed on my router, and it is also installed on a router in another house then it connects the two networks together so I can access anything on that LAN without port forwarding or VPN.

For example, a windows 11 PC has an address of 192.168.5.100 and is in the second house. From my PC in myhouse that is on 192.168.1.100 I can RDP into the windows 11 PC as if it was in my house.

I'm presuming that the person asking is meaning that they have a box in, say, Spain and they have Zero Tier between Spain and England and they want to watch iPlayer in spain. I think it would work if they create an Endpoint in Zero Tier in England so the Spain house routed all internet traffic via the England house and therefore iPlayer should work as it thinks it is being watched in England.

I've never tried this but I think it would work.
