I have now got the epg to populate and the raw data is there but what isn't there are the indications of what timers are set in the source epg. To the layman the epg of the source is the program details but also the other things you see if you look at the epg physically on the source box (ie. is it set to record and thus coloured red, can I see the autotimer icon on the program in the epg, etc.). I can see that this would not be possible though as should the program have these indicators one could not know if the indicator belonged to the source server or not. When in client mode would it not make sense to have an option to disable the ability to add a timer locally to the client box or somehow distinguish locally set timers in the locally displayed epg (which the end user has been told is the epg of the master box) so the end user (not necessarily me or you) would see the fuller picture?
The end user (for example a non technical family member) doesn't care about all the technicalities, complexities and nuances of the system they are using to watch TV but is easily confused by something like this.
This is where I got really messed up too because I jumped in and set all these things up without first having a proper understanding of the client mode (and fallback tuners options) and somehow managed to configure things in client mode so I could still set a local timer saving a recording locally with a red colouring in the epg that I mistakenly thought was the epg of a different box. I was confused as hell when I went up to the server box and the recording was missing from its epg.
A thing that would be a good feature / enhancement would be to automatically install the "remote timers" plugin when client mode is enabled (or indeed when fallback tuners are enabled) and add an option in the epg screen to be able to assign one of the coloured buttons to the remote timers plugin plus an option under the advanced menu in the epg screen. The end user would then see this option in the epg coloured options (or it's advanced menu) and be steered towards using it to see the timers on the master box epg. An option to "add remote timer" would be a great addition too. I thought that this was meant to be in the remote epg plugin but I can't see it. If I had the ability to code all of this I would be on the case but I am a simpleton in that regard and would never be able to do it.
. I will reach out to the developer of the remote timer plugin to try and understand why I'm not seeing the add remote timer options in the plugin but that's about all I can do myself annoyingly. Sorry for my ramblings......
