mkv recording vs download

Hi,
I have a Vu Duo box running OpenVix 6.6.0.13. If I record a tv show playback is fine and I can skip forward or backwards using the numeric buttons and it responds pretty much instantly. If I download a file in mkv format sometimes they respond similarly well but other mkv files are slow to skip forward / backwards. Mp4 files always seem to be slow to respond. Why is this and is it possible to fix?

Install ffmpeg and the exteplayer3 (serviceapp) plugin. :

opkg install ffmpeg
opkg install enigma2-plugin-systemplugins-serviceapp

Thanks, both installed and up to date. I have no idea what they do. It doesn;t seem to have made much difference.
