[ViX_Misc] Movie player formats

Tried searching but can't find anything, which formats does the default media player Accept?

Got quite few movies in mkv format but the box doesn't recognise them on the hard drive, I assume I need to convert them to TS or something?

Also could someone recommend a good free converter for this

Its not the format that is important but the encoding. Try Freemake or free version of DivX Converter

Handbrake is what you need

Just for the record: video decoding is done in hardware, not by any 'player'. So all video contents needs to be in a codec that is embedded in the hardware. The very best result you get by using H264; so any recoding should really be done using H264.

on VU with default media player of OpenViX mkv are played without problems when the encoding is supported.

What do you mean with "does not recognize them"? Are they not show in media player? If yes try a different player. As I said the default player of OpenViX show mkv files.

interesting as i have loads of non viewable files i have to hunt for a player so other media players could be added to a vix image on a vu receiver or is it pc only?

No as already stated. You must make sure your media files are correctly encoded to run on the hardware, you can not add software basez codeks in the same way you would with PC.
