[ViX_Misc] On Demand and Tunlr

I changed the dns in the CommonModules to Unlocator, seemed to work well as an alternative to Tunlr. You have to create an account like Tunlr but it's free, currently anyway!

It looks like Unlocator will be a short lived alternative

I got a mail from one of their support guys to check how the service was working! I replied to say it was working well and great that it was free! Anyway, his response was swift in that it won't be free for long, they are just in testing phase and shortly it will become $4.95 per month..

So, what are the other good free alternatives? It would be nice to pick up another decent free one!!

Have updated the DNS with Getflix that offers 14 days free then $2.95 a month.Seems to be working OK.
Didn't realise that you could change the DNS in the VIx image and this would work.Would have saved me fiddling about with editing files.On second thoughts it probably will not work for me as my box is on a network with it's own address.
Didn't mean to imply that I expect someone to do the work for me. I realise that all of this is done for nothing and I appreciate all the hard work.

-[OnDemand] Update tunlr DNS server settings ( Thanks mickd for the heads up )


you can either wait for the next build ( after 703 or 704 ) or FTP the CommonModules.py file into /usr/lib/enigma2/python/Plugins/Extensions/OnDemand/ ( delete any CommonModules.py / CommonModules.pyo files already in there ) then perform a GUI reboot for the fix to take hold.


Please remember to delete the CommonModules.py once the receiver has rebooted and it has generated the new CommonModules.pyo file

I guess the advantage of doing it within the plugin is that it is used just for those locations that need it. Your normal location / gateway will be used for ABC iView without the international bandwidth issues and for some ISPs without metering

Maybe Its time we setup our own VIX Smart DNS system. With so many users based in UK, Ireland and Australia and the great wealth of knowledge on this forum, Surely its a possibility. This could open all players in Ondemand to all VIX users.
