OpenViX 5.4 is based on the OE-Alliance v4.4 core. You cannot perform an online update if you are currently on OpenViX 5.3.xxx or older.

The easiest way to flash latest OpenVix image is to do the following:

First:
Download the image to your receiver's storage device
Blue button > ViX > Image manager > Yellow (Downloads) > Select OpenViX > Select image version > Press OK
You will see the download status

Second:
Once downloaded, you should still be in Image manager and the latest image should be highlighted.
Ensure you have the correct image selected then press the Blue button (Flash)
The new image will flash and box will reboot when completed

You can then restore settings and plugins from OpenViX 5.3 series images after you have flashed the image. This will restore most things to how you had them before.

RESTORE PROCESS WILL NOT RESTORE PLUGINS THAT ARE NOT ON THE CURRENT PLUGIN SERVER. THESE MUST BE INSTALLED MANUALLY.

There are many guides to flash/restore. Here is another

http://www.world-of-satellite.com/showthread.php?47588-Flashing-Settings-backup-and-Restores

So what is different in OpenViX 5.4 then?
OpenViX 5.3 build 039 was the final build in the 5.3 series.

As with previous images, the main differences are core of the image or the OE (Open Embedded). This has undergone a lot of changes, updates and fixes.

***Password required for FTP, TELNET & SSH!*** SEE GUIDE HERE!

  • Factory reset procedure was overhauled.
  • Simplified menu path system.
  • Action controls changed. Stay on 5.3 if your plugins don't work properly/as before.
  • Enigmalight working from plugin server apart from Vu Arm receivers.
  • EPG buttons customisable. Long press EPG / Guide / Info buttons to change defaults.
  • Some of Kiddac's skins on plugin server.

  • Some Gigablue remotes button remapped so they can access Help function. More changes to come to Help system.

OpenTV EPG reader for Sky UK and Italy has now been added. Thank you goes to LraiZer for the OpenTV code and thank you Huevos for merging the code into OpenViX. A new module to automate the zapping to obtain EPG has been added from 5.4 005

If you require CrossEPG or EPG Refresh, please install them from the Plugin menu.

Apart from the above users should not notice many other differences between previous OpenViX 5.3 and OpenViX 5.4 (i.e. there are not many functional differences.).

Known Image issues
Dreamplex - Some users in certain setup's may have issues.

Known Plugin/Receiver issues
Older receivers with lower amounts of memory struggle with downloading OpenTV EPG data using Cross EPG downloader. Use a swap file in such cases.
Some 3rd party plugins may not be currently compatible with OE-A 4.4 core, streaming plugins may require their respective author's to add dependencies for GST 1.xx.
HbbTV not working for all receivers. Please raise issue with respective Manufacturer.

OpenVix 5.4 and FTP or Network access

From OpenVix 5.4, a password will be required for FTP access and other network functions. This also applies to other images on OE-A 4.4 branch such as OpenATV 6.4

To set a password, there are two options:

Option 1.
Menu > Setup > Network > Password > Choose your password > Green (Save)

menu_setup_network.webp

password_setup.webp

Pressing TEXT will open the virtual keyboard

vkeyboard.webp

Option 2.

Set it by command line using SSH or Telnet with applications like Putty/Terminal or similar
issue following command
Code:
passwd

If you need a guide to using Putty, see here:
https://www.world-of-satellite.com/showthread.php?40948-How-to-use-Putty-for-Unix-Linux-commands

Note:
Passwords are saved/restored when using settings backup. If you have one on ViX 5.3, you can restore it in OpenVix 5.4.
