What type of support thread are you creating?
Support question
What OpenViX Image build number are you using?
6.7.008
Have you tried re-flashing WITHOUT settings restore?
YES
Have you tried re-flashing WITH a settings restore?
YES
Last week I finally gave SKY the drop kick and replaced the sky box with my old VU+ DUO2.
It seems the flash memory had erased itself...Is that normal..?
After flashing openvix 6.7.008 I've hit three problems...The second two maybe connected

1. After a successful automatic scan the EPG did not automatically populate..
Do I need to request this nowadays...If so how..?

2. No device on the network can see the DUO2 except for the router.
When running a Windows Diagnostic test I get the following:
See attached image

Is there perhaps a setting in Vix somewhere that now needs to be set to enable network access to the STB.
I notice that a password for the box is now mandatory so I set one but it made no difference.

3. This could be related to problem 2 but when I tried to set up my network connections the two QNAP NAS boxes were no problem
but although the DUO2 could see the 'ASUSTOR' network node it wouldn't expand it.
I tried a manual definition of one of the storage pools within the Asustor NAS box but still couldn't access it.
I realise it suggests an issue with the NAS box but my DUO4k box running Vix 5.3.015 has never had a problem accessing it and I'm sure the
DUO2 never used to.

Not wanting to sound sacreligious but I'd quite like to try installing Vix 5.3.015 on the DUO2 but it doesn't seem to available even in the archive.
Does the ZIP file still exist somewhere..?
It would be nice if both my VU+s looked the same but more importantly if it cures the problem then it could give some indication as to what's
causing the problem.

Any/All advice very welcome (Even the condescending type...!!)

Thanks

Mark

1, you need to set it up. Either OpenTV or freesat from EPG menu.

This may not help -- symptom mismatch [and I couldn't see the attachment] -- ;) but I had an age-old problem getting a Win10 box to access my Vu+ Duo2, and finally cracked it setting 'windows credentials' via ye olde Control Panel app (as attached). More sketchy, I think I may have run into trouble with the Vu+ default network setting, when using separate subnets for WiFi and the hard-wired interface. And, the final sketchiness, the Vu+ samba service stopped auto-loading at some point, this was simply sorted via the menu. It's been solid for a good while now.

Thank you all for such a speedy response..

Thanks Huevos...I now have a usable OpenTV EPG...

And alphacabbage1 your response is in no way sketchy...It's helped me get somewhere with the network issue...
'age old problem'...You're talking to a Windows 7 die-hard
Yes it would seem that the STB can't communicate with two different routers simultaneously (Home Network and Internet)
Probably despatching priority issues or as you say submask differences.

SAMBA that rings a big bell from about ten years ago

Samba is running on my main DUO4K box but I cannot get it to start on the DUO2.
When I try I get a message asking if I want to install it...YES
Then the following error:

Error: opkg_solver_Install: Cannot install packagegroup-base-smbts-server.
Couldn't find anything to satisfy 'packagegroup-base-smbts-server'.
Unknown package 'packagegroup-base-smbts-server'.

If I can get Samba running I'm pretty sure that network issue 2 will be resolved (Maybe issue 3 as well)

Finally....Please Please Please has anyone out there got a copy of the relevant ZIP file for Vix 5.3.015 for the DUO2
I fully appreciate that I can't expect full support from you guys for that version but it is what I've been using for the past
4 years and I'm very familiar with it...
I know from 20 odd years as a mainframe STC that clients who expect full support while running an ancient version of a
product can be a real pain....I won't be
I'll keep an image copy of the current version when/if I get it working

Error: opkg_solver_Install: Cannot install packagegroup-base-smbts-server.
How did you get that? That is not a package on OpenViX feeds.

If you want Samba you just go in Menu > Setup > Network > Samba. If it is not already installed that screen will ask if you want to install it.

And don't forget to add the correct netbios setting in /etc/samba/smb-user.conf so it works. If you are confused do a search on the forum for netbios.

'How did I get that?'....Isn't that the question I should be asking...?
I did exactly what you have specified in the second paragraph...That's what gave me the error..
Looks like the erroneous package may be specified in the escape function of a nested IF statement somewhere in the code...
Either hard coded or from one of the numerous control files in the root directory..

I would have scanned for that package name in the root directory but with no access to the STB I couldn't...

I did however find an old image backup on one of my archive disks for 5.3.001 which I installed and about 15 mins later
had more or less everything working...Full network access to and from the box at least and Samba started without a problem.
I think I took that backup during alpha testing of 5.3 which means it's got a whole load of testing stuff that I can't clear as well
as inheriting all the initial teething problems of the first build of 5.3.
All these issues (From my point of view) had been resolved in 5.3.015 which was what my DUO4K came pre-installed with and
it has worked perfectly since apart from the limitations and dare I say minor bugs in Vix all of which I've developed
work-arounds for.

Is there any way I could be sent or given access to download Vix 5.3.015 for the DUO2 and if possible for my DUO4k as well.
That would certainly deserve another donation to the Vix Support coffers..
If that's in no way possible then I guess I'll just have to put up with my current rather iffy version.

I had to adapt smb-user.config on duo2 and now also on new duo4K :

[global]
# include = /etc/samba/distro/smb-secure.conf
disable netbios = No
workgroup = WORKGROUP

I have old files for duo2 but to large to upload here but if I have your email adress I can send them wetransfer

We only maintain feeds for 6.6 and 6.7. And only build 6.7 images. We don't have resources to maintain 5 year old versions.

For me SAMBA client installed fine and that file in your OPKG error is not a depends of the package so I don't have any idea how you get that.

installed latest vix on new duo4K and samba was started but box not accessible.Had to change the file myself so maybe someone needs to look at it.

just that these 2 lines are not installed now and previously they where :

disable netbios = No
workgroup = WORKGROUP

Hi Bellejt

My email address is 'removed'.

I'm not sure what a wetransfer is but receiving these files would be wonderful

you receive a mail with a link for download 5.3.001. Other one I have is 5.3.007 .All for duo2

oke send it now
Received
Thank you so much...Not Build 015 but a lot better than what I'm currently trying to work with.
Hopefully I can return the favour someday..
The files downloaded incredibly quickly...I think I'll investigate Wetransfer for my own use

Would you agree that it seems a bit strange that older versions of Vix aren't saved in an offline archive somewhere.

Mark

takes a lot of space on there server so I saved them on my external drive but lost some versions I skipped in time.I even have the very old ones here :) .Only with old versions you need to install everything yourself on apps.
