Recording on ET8500

Well, it's not working.
Although the fact that the reports are from EXT4-fs indicates that an ext4 file-system was put on it. So it was accepting writes then. For a filed controller I'd expect to see it fail all of the time. Intermittent failures sound more like a disk issue (happens when that part of the disk gets used).

I would agree ... but thought worth checking the connections ....although how you would bend anything is unlikely as the disk just slides in without any play as far as I remember

Yeah you guys are right there's no cable just slides in. Doesn't seem to be any noticeable damage.

I've tried two different hard drives so what's the chances both HDD's are having issues?

Is it possible could be something with the box as the recording has never worked?

Depends where they came from, same batch(?), make?
Unfortunately, it can happen .... the technology inside one of these HDD,s is really wonderful but it can go wrong (and I know that it can go really wrong from my business experience having worked for a disk manufacturer (amongst other products)

@Muzz - can you put the disk(s) into a PC and check what S.M.A.R.T. reports on the drive condition? If there are genuine read/write errors it will be reported. It should eliminate or confirm the drives as being faulty. If the drives come out clean from a SMART test, then maybe the disk controller in the ET8500 has a fault and should be returned.

Or install smartmontools and run smartctl on the box itself.

So ran the SMART program and the disks both say Good! At this stage have I exhausted everything and it comes down to the box?

Do the SMART tests report any reallocated sectors or other marginal values? Can you post screenshots of the SMART information for each of the disks?

Don't believe they are showing any other errors but as requested attached are the two screenshots.

Doesn't seem to be be any hard sector errors. I'm not sure of the significance of the CRC errors. Maybe it's the internal controller in the ET5800 box and worth returning for checking for faults?
