satellites.xml

• The system version of this file goes in /etc/tuxbox. It gets updated on software update and also between builds using the xmlUpdate plugin from the tuner menu.
• If you add your own user version of this file it goes in /etc/enigma2 and is used instead of the system file. This means updates to the system file do not interfere with the user file.

oe-alliance satellites.xml / satellites-xml.org

• The oe-alliance satellites.xml file is for people who want to watch DTH. For scanning of DTH to be fast it is not desirable to have entries that are not related to DTH.
• The oe-alliance satellites.xml file is identical to the file produced by satellites-xml.org with the following settings: Satellites = All, Band = Both, Transponders = only active, System = Both, Encoding = UTF8.
• The database of satellites-xml.org is updated once a week on Saturday morning around 02:00 UTC. The oe-alliance satellites.xml is also updated during this process.

Blindscan

• A copy of each scan is stored in in /tmp and it is up to the user to save any useful information from that file.

Good info. And great help. So then. If my satellites.xml is found first on boot in /etc/enigma2. The system file in /etc/tuxbox will never be used for the various scanning methods? Just carving it in stone because I've never seen a satellites.xml in the /etc/enigma2 directory, although I've seen it mentioned many times.

I've used satellites-xml.org for several years. It appears that there may be two approaches. A few incative satellites have new transponders turned on for events. Many more have ones not listed in the varios charts turned on for events, with parameters not matching anything. Blindscanning for wild feeds if part of the hobby and interesting broadcasts can be snagged. They (tp's) may be active only for a short period.
Adding those to my user file and a periodic cycle through Signal Finder to and looking at services when lit up saves a bit of time. Plus scanning only unknown transponders in blindscan srevents what you've already done previously. Displaying Services is a very nice addition.

Absolutely. And it is volatile. I used Ultra Edit at work. Very cool with the things that could be done with it. Notepad++ was just an editor that handles .xml files very well to me. Once getting a spark in my hard head to enable formatting characters and finding that satellites.xml is sensitive to extra spaces, tabs instead of spaces. Super satisfied that once the file was tidied up and formatted perfectly. It seems there are no more right button incidents. And it explains why after adding a missing satellite to my list. It did not list in tuner setup.

I do apologize. My trait is to give probably way too much info. in a post. Perhaps it keep the back-and-forth questions down a bit. I just disliked getting late night trouble calls from work with the person on the other end saying things like "That thing that does that thing on it isn't doing it." What thing? On what machine? Where?
