[VU+ Solo2] USB install problems and internal flash full

I would appreciate some help;

I have a Vu Solo 2 box which is great.
I installed open vix image (the latest) and everything was working great until I updated picons through the plugins and my internal flash is full. I am now getting errors.
I decided a factory reset would be appropriate, but when I placed the image on the usb to reinstall it by passes the usb and goes into the open vix screen for setup.
If I try and reload a skin HD blue I get an error message and the system restarts
If I try and set up network I get an error message and it restarts
When doing a service scan I get an error tuning timed out and it restarts
Something has gone wrong somewhere, but I am at a loss to understand why and what I can do to rectify the problem

I tried to install open vix again using another usb stick and it goes straight in to set up with updating. I have tried 3 usb sticks with the same result

I even disconnected my hard drive to see whether it would make it work, no result
I though factory restart would wipe all clean and you would be able to reinstall any image?

Any help would be appreciated
