Vu+ Duo2 configuration to use both tuners

Hi experts. There is some very good advice given on this forum.

I recently bought a dual tuner VU+Duo2 . I use OpenVix 5.0.002. I can only use one tuner i.e. when recording I can only view the channel being recorded. Also when playing a channel on my TV I can’t watch a different channel on my PC using Webif. On the back of the box I have 2 F plug sockets marked Tuner A. Tuner B is covered by a plate. Both manuals that came with the box show 4 sockets. The box came with a short loop-through cable. Under devices the software detects Tuner A and Tuner B – both identical.

When a recording is in progress many programs are greyed out – presumably those on different transponders. I am only able to watch the program being recorded. If I try to view a greyed out program it shows “no free tuner”. If I try to view a non greyed out program it says “tune failed” and flashes red. Also when I try to set a record timer for any simultaneous channel it says “tuner sanity error”. I am beginning to wonder if this refers to my belief that the satellite box is indeed a twin tuner as stated on the box it came in.

I have tried connecting the cable to each of the sockets at the back with the other tuner looped through internally. I have also tried connecting the cable to each of the sockets with the other socket not connected but the results seem to be the same – although clearly not fully tested.

I want to watch a TV program whilst recording a different channel and to record 2 programs simultaneously. How do I set up my tuner configurations to use both tuners?

The satellite cable does, in fact, come via a 4 port Diseqc but I have excluded that so as not to complicate things.

What does it say beside the f connector does it say
Lnb in for both connectors
Or does it say Lnb in on 1 and loop out on other

1. How many signal wires in total do you have coming to the receiver?
2. Which tuner has the loop cable connnected to "LNB in"
3. Describe what you have selected for the tuner configuration for tuner A.
4. Describe what you have set for the tuner configuration for tuner B

Please give 4 separate answers. Describe the current situation, not what you tried.

Sorry I have tried 5 times to include this on the original thread.

1. I have one cable attached to the lower socket of Tuner A
2. I do not use the loop cable
3. Tuner A = loop through from Tuner B
4. Tuner B
Config mode simple
Mode Diseqc A B C D
A= 28.2
B= 19.2
C= 13
D= Nil
Set voltage etc = Yes
Send Diseqc only on change = No

All 3 satellites are tuned so no problem with Diseqc


When a channel is recording the channel list shows most channels greyed out. Not all the bold channels are on the same transponder. When I select a greyed out channel it reports “no free tuner”. When I select most bold channel it reports “tune failed”. When I select a bold channel on the same transponder it plays. The front panel shows a red dot, a greyed out A and a bold B.

It is possible to have 2 simultaneous recordings on the same transponder

How many tuner cards/modules do you have.

A. Two single tuner modules/cards
B. One twin tuner module/card.
C. Don't know


If the question does not make sense, upload a picture of the back of your receiver showing the signal wires please.

A Duo 2 can only accept two tuner cards. There are only two tuner sockets on the circuit board.

Questions were asked for clarification. From the details in your posts, you have one card/module (twin tuners) with only one signal wire. Please say if I have misunderstood.

Your tuners are configured correctly. The situation you are in is to be expected and normal.

A person with only one tuner, would have access to one transponder only. You are using "internal loop through", this is why you are able to receive services from the same quadrant of the satellite. However you are only able to tune to one more transponder.

For a tuner to be fully utilised, it must have an independent signal wire from LNB or Diseqc switch. (Unicable LNBs are different.)


You are currently limited to two transponders on the same satellite. You should be able to comfortably record/view stream 12 services, provided they are on two transponders on one satellite. AFAIK, oscam is limited to 7 simultaneous decryptions. Unless you run another wire, you will be limited.
