Hey all
Thanks for the new image, all good apart from one problem. Since upgrading to the new image Vu Duo ViX 2.3 (Linux 3.1.1) 25-12-2011 I have a problem with timer recordings not recording properly, if at all. They start to record but only for 1 or 2 minutes, sometimes less, just a few seconds.
In the recordings list they show up as still recording (solid red circle on left side of recording file) but on the right hand side of screen the duration will only be a few seconds or a few minutes even though it has been recording for longer.

I was one of those that did the online update on Christmas morning and had the box stick on “starting”. I flashed the new bootloader and then the new image, which I’ve done four times now but I still get the same problem with timer recordings. If I do a recording just with the record button, it works fine, no problems.

I’ve since switched back to VIX 2.3 and timer recordings work as they should. I can’t bring VIX 2.3 up to date as when I do the online update, it brings the image back to the new Linux 3.1.1 problem of sticking on “starting”. I tried to do an image restore from my last backup but the file seems to be missing. Could I use someone else’s backup file (pre Linux 3.1.1) to bring VIX 2.3 to the last build?
If so could someone supply one to me please?

Has anyone else had this timer record problem and is there a solution to it please?

Many thanks

the build where the 3.1.1 kernel was introduced was 153 so downloading any build earlier than this will come with the old kernel.

Blue button > vix > image manager > yelow button. you should see a list of full images to download.

or try the new drivers released today see if those help.

20111229
- Add security enhancement
- Reduce FPGA update time(uno, ultimo)
- Improve recording

BEWARE these drivers can only be used on images with the 3.1.1 kernel or above.

Thanks for the swift reply pheonix, I'll try the new drivers and report back. Thanks for the info regarding image manager also, never had to use it before, learn something new every day.

Cheers mate

Phoenix,

Are these updates part of the latest downloadable image or are they an online download update.

All these updates in December since 2.3 are making things sort of confusing. (Kernels, Image, Vix , Drivers etc.)

Is this going to be the norm going forward.

I believe you FTP the tarball to the temp folder, then reboot the box, but i maybe wrong with enigma2, guy`s

these drivers were released today so i'm not sure if there in the image yet.

to use the drivers extract the archive i use 7zip.

open any ftp program and navigate to lib >modules >3.1.1 >extra you will see 3 files in there make a backup of those and copy the ones from the archive overwriting the original ones, then reboot the receiver.

run a online update to new drivers, look in Infortmation --> About to see what version of driver your are running, 20111230 are the latest. and the late image build 161

I am running Vix 2.3 GM since I never got any of them new builds (153?) to work.
I do not trust theese online updates anymore since my box has crashed everytime I tried online updates with the image dated 25/12
My update routine was the right one.
My HW version of the box (VU+DUO) is Rev2.3 Your version of your box mainboard is printed on the mainboard.
This 161 build is it just to try and get a crash or is it properly tested?

well if your running the GM image you can not update online as you need the kernel 3.1.1 image which is build 153 to do this. you can download the 161 image from the image manager blue button > vix > image manager > yellow button and try flashing that. and there is nothing what so ever wrong with the online updates, as for the image every image we release is properly tested we do not like some other teams release beta images.

Mine is 1.1
And regarding your question: yes, as always, we don't get images out without decent testing. That's the very reason it sometimes takes some time before we release a major update.

Mine is revision 1.3 main board with the white remote control, and it works flawlessly with the new 3.1.1 linux kernel.

My recordings have also started to fail. Did dull flash upgrade to 2.3 on Xmas day following failed online update (I had downloaded some plugins xmas eve and on autoreboot in night the box failed to start - assume it must have downloaded the update).

Now on 2.3 fully updated. kernel 3.1.1 v2.3 161 last update 30/12

hd 1TB and has >100Gb free

Free memory only 2700 (is that normal?)

Prev recordings play fine (all recordings to HD and rec settings look fine, nothing chaged)

No recent crashes

Recordings start and then although the VU still shows the recording red icon it stops usually after a minute when viewed (but red icon stays on). Affects timer or real time recordings. Occasionally will work to put a spanner in the works!

I have a somewhat p'd off family at the moment - lost all recordings from last night (as well as all Xmas day!)

If its rel I noticed last night when I came in that the vu remote control was no longer controlling my av amp volume (but was def working earlier). Has an update caused all of this??

What next - do I have to reflash again?? Can I restore some settings from a backup (or will this just recreate any errors/corruptions?)

cheers

There is nothing to update using the keysequence you mentioned. There is just a backup image on my hd that is avaible.
Under information I can see that the date for the last update 18/11 2011 Ver 2.3
I updated the bootloader some days ago using usb.
Where was it I could check if that update went ok?

Yes: Linux has an intelligent memory manager: memory not used = memory spilled

I presume the control took place via the HDMI-CEC plugin. Did you check the settings?
