After using vix 2.3 for a few days, I decided to update via 'Software update.
It downloaded 147 updates and asked to be re-booted. but all I get is 'Starting' appear on the box and nothing on the screen.
Any Ideas?

I think you have mis-understood.
I have already flashed 2.3 successfully from scratch with the new bootloader.
The problem arises when I try to do the online updates to the 2.3 image.
It just sticks on 'Starting'. I have even tried to reflash the new bootloader again without success.

no he was correct, the new image released yesterday has the Linux 3.1.1 kernel so updating online results in a non booting box. you must flash the bootloader then the new image.

Hi does any one kow what is the password to log in to open WEBfib....

go to MENU>Plugins>openwebif and change port to 00080 if you are getting an error. You can also leave the port as is and just put it at the end of your box IP in the webbrowser

Thanks i just changed the port to 00080 and loged on as useaul with out the password..

many thanks

Hi Guys I had this problem too !!! If this has to be a flash install why does it download as a web update?

The vu series had to be flashed as the update changed from the old kernel to the new kernel. The update shown up by accident but you have to reflash the bootloader (for some) and then the image

If you have not updated the BL recently than you will need to update to use 2.3.

If your unsure update the BL anyway.

I think you guys are misunderstanding cougar.

I too have the same problem.

I flash the bootloader. Then I install the image. Then I run the software update. Restart and BOOM. Nothing.

Vu+ Duo says it is starting on the LCD, nothing on screen.

So what are we missing here? Or are the software updates always going to brick the box on 2.3 for the time-being?

What you described match my problem exactly.
Today I will try for the third time to do a bootloader/image (using usb) and finally a web software update.
Will be back with result and, if failed, a crash report.

Have done some tests and found out that the Kerni HD1 skin as well as the default skin, with MgCamd 1.35a running in my VU+Duo causes crashes. When I restart the MgCamd the crash is there. The Vix_Night_HD skin together with MgCamd does not crash.
The MgCamd 1.35a.cfg is set to auto, have tryed to set it to mips but the crashes till occur.
This all started after the Vix 2.3/ 3.1.1/build 153
There has never been any problems earlier.

A thought: There are 2 (as far as I know) revisions of VU+DUO
Can there be problems with the new kernel combined with the "wrong" revision of HW in the box?
My HW version of VU+ Duo is 2.3

so what shall we do then?bin 2.30 and go back? as anyone got advice on what one to go to getting sick of aLL THIS CRASHING...

As Canthackit say..

Make sure to use the 153 image.. I could not get the updates to work either with the 133..

You could also do the updates via telnet.. That also worked for me..

In Telnet Type :

opkg update

Then press enter..

Then type :

opkg upgrade

Then press enter..

Wait for untill updates are finished..

Then type :

shutdown -r now

Then press enter..

This always worked for me..

Hope this helps
