[VU+ Ultimo] New ViX Team VU+ Ultimo OE3.0 Release Discussion

Is the scan file name? if so give it a try, i did it on a ultimo and worked fine

It would have been nice if this file would have been placed here too, but okay. The box works again. I am wondering how this update could have gone through to us. Is there no testing of version 3.0 updates before it is released?

And with this temp fix only the standard skin comes up. A pitty, while I really like the HD skin by Rob :)

all updates go through to everyone and they will flash with the "red" unstable icon meaning it hasn't been tested. If you dont want to take a risk... wait till someone or some people test and change the status to stable at which stage you will see a "green" stable flashing icon... It is entirely upto you what you chose to do :-)

we had a system where we released only stable fully tested images when we had deemed them ready and we were constantly hounded to release them, our users said they wanted the updates as and when we released them, even if they had not been tested. This is what we now do via the stable / unstable system.

When I set the whole thing on not using untested not a single plugin could be installed. That is the only reason I put it on.

in that situation all you have to do is turn on the unstable update option, download the plugins you want then turn it back off again. you dont have to install the image if you dont want to.

Punisher, I did not know that there was a red icon... I knew the green one, turned the HD skin from Rob on, saw this morning the update icon and only thought that the colour was different due to another skin.

I use ViX for a short while again. Since I have a Ultimo. I did not know the colour scheme.

Re VIX Image 3.0 Vers 282 I am having an issue with my Ultimo since I updates to Vers 282. When I put the box into Deep Standby it freezes/goes into a loop on restart. I have tried rebooting but no success. The only solution I have found is to reflash. Vers 268 does not appear to have the same problem. Has anyone else noticed this issue? Rgds

until andy releases a new image the latest is still 268 so stay with that one until we say otherwise.

if your currently using a image lower to 268 then make a full set of backups ( specifically a settings backup ) Then download the 268 image and fresh flash it, restoring your previous settings when asked to. at the moment using the online update feature will take you to the latest version which is the hinky one. once a andy has finished building the image with the fixes we will make a announcement on the forum.

Thanks Pheonix Now the penny has dropped!! I use Telnet to Update and Upgrade which takes me straight through to the latest version. In future I will wait for the download package to appear. Another dumb question, what is the difference between Update and Upgrade? Rgds
:cool::cool::cool::cool::cool:

'opkg update' loads the actual files containing all the available packages.
'opkg upgade' actually updates/upgrades the image.

Thanks again. In my simplistic language then Update downloads the files and Upgrade loads them? It appears the learning curve is steep!!! Rgds

Upgrade 'installs' the updates seems to be a better wording.
Anyway: it are just Linux-commands, so maybe a bit different from normal, human English.

Not exactly, opkg update checks the server for updates & lets the box know what updates are available if any.
opkg upgrade then downloads those updates & installs them.
