HI, Wondered if anyone can help me with a strange problem. Since Ive updated to Helios and now Apollo, my box has developed a new problem this week..

At any random time, the box switches from one satellite to another on a random channel and then shows the message "No Free Tuner"!!.. I have to send the box back to the sat it was on (19.2E) and reboot. It then behaves.. Suddenly about 30 mins later it sends it over to 16E again? WTF?

Ive tried a complete reflash and restored several different backups i have and ALL seems to do the same thing?

Do i have some sort of virus or faulty box?

This is driving me crazy cos it does this even if im recording, then obviously the recording fails as it moves to another sat and says no free tuner.

it seems to pick random sats too..Ive had it go to 19.2, 13, 28.2, 28.5 east

sounds like you may have timers/recordings set that are using the tuners.

Ive flashed the box 3 times, double checked, there are no timers set whatsoever..

no outside access at present.. ive even relflashed and restored my router in case the aidra virus was causing problems.

Could there be a virus or problem contained in my backup's? perhaps i may have to try and reflash and sete everything up again from stratch and not use a backup?

Your backup will contain timers so start from fresh as you suggest.

I have the same problem with old timers I had set up for Atlantic HD when I flashed to Apollo I got timers that I had deleted in helios because they where still their somehow

there are no active timers present and ive never recorded anything from some of the satellites it keeps scanning to, which is weird!! But when i do a restart, the vu does keeps saying are you sure to restart as recordings are coming up shortly, which isnt the case as the timer menu is clear? Maybe there is somethin hidden in the backup causing this. Damn it, that means a complete fresh start and installing all my plugins and settings from scratch!! Not Happy :(:(

Please disconnect the Ethernet cable (and/or WiFi dongle if applicable), reboot the box and see if this happens again.
It looks very much like 'somebody' is accessing your box.

Ill try that tonight dude thanks. im not sure how they wud be accessing it but its worth a try..

if there an option to password protect the webinterface. Ive already changed password on the box itself

so icant password protect the web interface, anyone can just find my public ipand control the box?im sure thats not right

I've been telling that over and over and over again: portforwarding with password is not safe. There have been several reports of boxes being hacked that way.
The use of a VPN seems to be the only safe way.

i do have a vpn subscription actually.so your saying i shud put a vpn server on my box and leave it connected permanently? how will that stop this as the portforwarding is still needed through the router? Or is the best way to block the port for the webinterface?

not a vpn subscription but your own VPN at home.

this will allow you to connect to your home from outside and use devices as if you were at home.
