[TM-NANO-OE] External Hard Drive

Hi, newby here, I have a Samsung 1tb M3 Portable hard drive which I would like to use for recording on my Technomate tm-nano-oe, however when I plug into the usb and press record I get the message 'Missing, No HDD found or HDD not initialised'. I have tried formatting on my computer but still get the same message. Can anybody tell me how to proceed from here please as I am stuck.

How many storage devices have you got attached? USb sticks etc.
What format is the "physical hdd"

Has the physical hdd been mounted? Blue Button > Vix > Mount Manager
What is it mounted as?

What is your recording path? Menu >Setup >System >Recording settings

It is impotrant to distinguish between a physical hdd and a mountpoint called hdd

Hello :wave: and welcome to the forum

you need to set your Hard Drive up from the receiver - press Menu/Setup/System/Storage devices/initialisation - and hopefully vix should format your HD to ext4

Initialisation = format.

Be aware that this will wipe any data on HDD. It may not be a necessary action if your HDD is already in a linux file system

followed your blue button /vix/mount manager and the following was displayed: usb:m3 portable, size: unavailable, mount: none, device/dev/sda1, type: unavailable. there were options below but I would prefer some guidance. Thanks in anticipation.

Thanks for your welcome, I tried your path but only got as far as system as there was no 'storage devices listed

Blue button -> ViX -> Mount Manager. Yellow button to unmount.

Menu -> Setup -> Sytem -> Storage Devices -> Initialisation to format & mount the drive as /media/hdd/ & in EXT4 format.

Hi again, I have tried all your suggested paths but I am still unable to find 'Storage Devices' so I still have not got any further. Is there anything else I can try please?
By the way I dont understand what @mount & Unmount' refer to.

Menu -> Information -> About.

Build number is 808 image is not on the list

That image is approximately a year old now and no longer supported, try updating to a newer image as we can no longer offer fixes or updates for such old images.

If I remember correctly, Storage devices was called "Hard Disk" earlier on.

To use latest images, you will need to flash the bootloader for your receiver.

Nick - I will try to explain mount and umount as queried. Abu yesterday said it was important to distinguish between the physical HDD and the mountpoint called hdd. Mounting is the process of associating a physical Linux device driver (eg /dev/sda1 or in my history /dev/rdsk/c0d0 - depends on hardware) with a logical directory name in the Linux file structure (eg /media/hdd or even generic /mnt or in fact any chosen logical point). It is so the operating system gets to see the underlying hardware. And umount is the opposite, it removes the resource allocation. There are a few types of mounts depending on media used for the mount but the most common is the hard disc or flash drive and ext4 seems to be getting mentioned recently. Hope this is helpful background but as previous posts have said there are menu options for doing these operations.
