Hi

I've had my Duo2 for just over a week - great box. The system informs me there is an update to 111, is it safe to just go ahead and do this? I ask because on my old Topfield box, it was always worth waiting a few weeks before applying any update

yes it should be ok to do a online update, but make a full set of backups first just incase.

Blue button> ViX> Image manager> This creates a full image backup
Blue button> ViX> Backup manager> This creates a settings and plugins backup.

Do the Image backup;

But - there is no need to do another settings backup in addition to the backup automatically created by the Software Update process

It only takes a few minutes to make a settings backup and certainly wont harm any thing, plus it can be used to restore plugins and settings in case a reflash is needed any time in the near future.

If you wait a few weeks update 130+ will be available. Updates are almost on a daily basis.

That's because vix is forever evolving and improving and not standing still, The improvements made to vix in the last 6 month are Amazing :D

yes and because of that constant drive to update, you have many of the features you now take for granted, such as a built in softcam manager, mini tv screen in the single EPG, ABM, full 1920x1080 HD skin support just to name a few in the long line of features that would not have existed if ViX were just content with releasing one image and not striving to better that image on a almost daily basis.

I think the issue is that you don't need daily updates for this. You just need feature updates which, if done with full testing, might mean fewer bug-fix releases.

I thought softcam manager was there in old v3 builds?
As was ABM??

Yes, hence why pheonix said these features are now taken for granted, included in the image & expected to work without issue....
Lots of other features also added since.

Nobody forces anyone to update. If you don't want to update, don't!

And if you dont want to find out about updates:
Menu > Setup > System > Software update settings > Background check: Change this to no

There are plenty of people who appreciate and want the continuing updates and effort that goes into the image.

The softcam manager was a original creation by Andyblac, it was his very first E2 plugin and it directly influenced his decision to build his own image at that time, ViX 1.0, some 4 years ago.

yes we tried that, we tested every conceivable part of the image prior to release, often taking six to nine months between image releases as a result and we still got complaints from users who wanted their updates now and did not want to wait until we tested them.

Personally happy with the regular updates - down to the user to decide if they prefer to update or not.

Appreciate all the effort - very pleased with OpenVix.
