Hello,

today I've installed for the first time Vix on my solo2.
I cannot change the root password per telnet.
After typing "passwd" no password is required!

Code:
Welcome to OpenViX for vusolo2
openvix 3.2 vusolo2

vusolo2 login: root
Last login: Sat Oct 31 18:47:28 CET 2015 on pts/0
root@vusolo2:~# passwd
root@vusolo2:~#

Is there a plug-in available to change the password?

Working fine here:

Welcome to OpenViX for vuduo2
openvix 3.2 vuduo2

vuduo2 login: root
Password:
Last login: Sun Nov 1 06:43:08 GMT 2015 on pts/0
root@vuduo2:~# passwd
Enter new UNIX password:
Retype new UNIX password:
passwd: password updated successfully
root@vuduo2:~# passwd
Enter new UNIX password:
Retype new UNIX password:
passwd: password updated successfully
root@vuduo2:~#

Thanks Sicilian,

the Problem is, there is no "Enter new UNIX password:" after typing passwd.

Well, reflash is for sure an option, but don't ask me witch image it won't be!

You are trying it on a Duo2 and he is trying it on a Solo2.
I know for a for nearly a week now my Solo2 has displayed odd behaviour and my Duo2 has not, i have tried to Software upgrade my solo2 this morning and it says the feeds are down, My Duo2 is fine.
I keep fresh flashing my Solo2 but it still exhibits problems, my Duo2 does not.

Witch Image Release/Build do You have in use, ronand?

PS Well, I've lost already the Saturday configuring the box. If I need the Sunday to, then for a stable image. Releasing "beta" images seams to be usual for all images.

That says way more about your own abilities or lack there of, than the state of the image. it would literally take you four minutes to reflash the receiver then maybe another fifteen to thirty minutes to setup every thing and thats assuming you'r using a motorized setup. If your just on a fixed sky dish you can be setup in fifteen minutes from flash to done and thats without any backups being used.

I've got 3 boxes in the house, have no issue with this password change, it's not box specific.

If you got an issue with solo2 start another thread.

I realy don't want to start polemics.
With configuring the box I don’t mean the initial set-up, that’s the easy one. Samba, NFS etc takes time. I use the box (hdd) as a data server.

You could install strace (opkg install strace), run:
Code:
strace -o debug.log passwd
then post the debug.log here...

My suspicion is that it can't find out what login id you are running under.
In which case running passwd root should work.

I have tested on my vuduo2 using the following commands and can replicate the issue, I am using Version 3.2 build 027. Was a clean flash then restored from a hades image (cant remember which version).

I open a cmd prompt as a local admin on a windows 7 Ultimate and run the following command
telnet vuduo2

Welcome to OpenVix for vuduo2
openvix 3.2 vuduo2

vuduo2 login:

I then type root and press Enter

then prompted with last login Wed Dec 9 21:25 GMT 2015 on pts/0
root@vuduo2:~#

I then type passwd
which I am then prompted with the same line again
root@vuduo2:~#

if I type passwd root

I get prompted with same line again.
root@vuduo2:~#

If I type passwd root password1
I get prompted with the usage password options. I don't want to install strace if I am performing a typo or doing something incorrectly
what is the exact command to change the password

apologies for hijacking the thread but experiencing what an only be described as the same issue

What did you restore from Hades? Settings only or settings & plugins?

I don't know I went into Menu > Setup > vix > Backup Manager and seleted open vix hades. Im pretty sure it never prompted for plugins or settings. Although I didn't need to install any softcams it did remove xbmc so not sure what happened.

I guess I may have to reflash as samba wont start also.,

Samba is now working with this fix
