[OS-mega] Drive free space vanishing

Still don't get the issue? or the paranoia about HDD space being used up?
Imagine you get up in the morning, look in the fridge and see that you have 2 pints of milk.
An hour later you look again, knowing that the fridge door hasn't opened in the meantime, and now you only have 1 pint.
Are you saying that you would take this to be normal and just accept it?

What does the telnet command df -T produce?

root@osmega:/media/hdd# df -T
Filesystem Type 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
ubi0:rootfs ubifs 445324 72884 372440 16% /
devtmpfs devtmpfs 284120 4 284116 0% /dev
tmpfs tmpfs 64 0 64 0% /media
tmpfs tmpfs 284268 156 284112 0% /var/volatile
/dev/sda1 ext4 976559616 63412736 912098304 7% /media/hdd

I am not 100% sure what it shows, but it seems to show the missing 17GB is still missing.

There is still the possibility that the hdd is faulty, looking thru' earlier posts.

You might be right, but isn't it odd that no less than 7 posters are experiencing the same phenomenon from faulty hdds, of different makes and at least 3 different sizes, all on OS Mega, all at the same time?

I suspect we might be able to work out the likelihood, if we knew roughly how many these relatively new machines have been sold, with a guesstimate of typical hdd mtbf. Conversely I am sure many many more zgemma's, e.g., are in use, but has any concurrent mass hdd failure producing the same free space loss phenomenon ever been observed?

At the OP can you please try OpenPLi and report back.

Fyi another user on OpenATV 6 is suffering the same problem, please see:

Also doesn't a GUI restart having no effect on the missing space, hence

Then it's not enigma2 that is holding on to the space. It's some other process.

precludes it has to do with OpenVix/OpenAtv or OpenPli?

Cheers!

On the 2 threads running at the moment, I counted 4 posters with problems, still unlikely I know, but it looks like OS mega is the common denominator.

I don't see what zgemma's have to do with sorting out this issue.

Sorry I am also counting OS Mega users. reporting the same problem, all within the past few days, at the other website... ;)

I referred to zgemma because there are many more of them, so far more hdds, far more hdd failures, so we should see many more similar whinges, if the phenomenon is associated with hdd failure? I might be wrong, but it seems the common denominator of the problem is the OS Mega box, not hdd failures per se.

Can you try Openpli please and report back.

Sorry I do not see any Openpli download in your website? Is it supported by WoS? I do not want to step on potentially tricky legal ground here, e.g. in terms of warranty, given my machine is new.

Even https://wiki.openpli.org/installation does not refer to this box, only other boxes, in their installation guide at their website? I am sorry, but I have never even touched one of these boxes until 3 weeks ago...

Wouldn't someone at or associated with WoS try it instead?

Cheers!

ViX don't provide images for OpenPLi etc, google is your best buddy for this.

Openpli is always beta!

There are no warranty issue flashing an image if flashed correctly.

I'm testing OpenViX now for this issue.

This is NOT a hardware issue, looks like a software issue bought in with the latest linux kernel. I've been testing this on various receivers, all report more HDD space used than actual recording size. Some more than others, after reboot HDD space is reported back correctly.

Seems to be more apparent on latest kernels. Mega is using 4.10 kernel. I'm reporting to Edision.

Hi Sicilian just in case it helps speeding up the bug hunt, it seems two other users, who have older machines, but using the same 4.10 kernel, are not experiencing the problem.

Please see
Code:

On the other hand, their machines appear to be older. Willo got his on 23 December (he posted the fact), and maxal indicated he got his on 20 January.

Doesn't it suggests that the kernel is unlikely to be the issue, while the hardware or associated firmware is?

I just wonder if you have an older machine, back for repairs e.g., that you could test?

Cheers!

It's got nothing to do with hardware. Even older images with 4.9 kernel have the same issue.

Issue will be reported to Edision tomorrow.

For now reboot the receiver daily.

I've just spent hours testing this issue with OpenViX, OpenATV and OpenPLi. Issue exists in OpenViX and OpenATV, not in OpenPLi. As i've stated this is not a hardware issue, it's a software bug. Possibly a bug in OE-Alliance core somewhere that both OpenViX and OpenATV share. OpenPLi has their own core.

Issue has been reported to Edision. Anyone bothered by this issue for now I'd suggest a daily reboot timer or use OpenPLi until fixed in OE-Alliance images.

To set a reboot timer, Menu > Timers > Power timers > Press Green to create a reboot timer daily.

Edision normally respond pretty fast to software issues, so hopefully a fix will not be too far away.

@ Speedy, ALL OS Mega in the public domain right now are ALL from same manufacturing batch, this is NOT a hardware issue. It's a software issue.

A fix for this issue is in the process of being tested. Cause has been found. Will be in next release build.

Sicilian, 5.0.004 is indeed effective - thank-you and the team for wasting no time at all in tackling it, and 100% proactive in identifying the extent of and fixing the problem!

Cheers!
