NEW Client mode introduced in OpenViX build 5.0.013

Does anything need to be done on the server box for this to work?

Also can you watch separate channels on the client box to the server or does channel switching in client get mirrored on server box?

Also, do the boquets mirror whatever is on the box regardless of whether it is a stream or satellite channel?

No
You can watch whatever you want without impacting the server.
The existing Bouquet is copied to the client.

Great! Will the Vu+ Zero be fast enough to be used as a client box? Will purchase it for this purpose.

I have an xtrend et8500 that I will use as server.

It doesn't seem to have solved it for me updating the client box. Away to update slave box too. Have you tried Chris?

Apologies, it seems sorted on sat tuner. Still to test cable. Thanks!

Just getting my box operational again after a year of non-use, so apologies for not being up to speed, but wanted to check my understanding before ordering another box for the bedroom. My reading of this thread is that such a client box would work without its own signal connection to the satellite dish, using ethernet or wi-fi (if necessary with USB adaptor) to connect with the server satellite receiver. I have the Virgin Media Superhub 2 with Devolo 500 Mbps wi-fi repeaters on a home plug system. It isn't very convenient to run cables to the spot in my bedroom where the TV is connected so wi-fi would be good. I would use a VU+ Solo 2 as the server and was thinking of buying either a Technomate TM-5402 or Nano as the client. Would that enable me to view programmes in the bedroom (usually in a scenario when the downstairs server receiver is not in use)? Thanks for any help.

That is correct, you don't need any satellite cables for the client box, but the TM-5402 is a no go.

Thanks to Andy and Abu for helpful replies. I guess the Nano M3 is more practical for the bedroom, but I wondered why the TM-5402 was a 'no go'. Although it probably wouldn't have fitted in with the bedroom application, a friend recommended it for its ability (with much tweaking) to get football feeds on 10E.

The 5402 is not an Enigma2 receiver. You will not be able to install Enigma2 plugins on it.

Having been out of the game for nearly 5 years since moving abroad and not checking here very often, this is a great feature! In theory, would it be possible to build an image for a Raspberry Pi only supporting Client mode? That would be a really cheap way to get TV in another room.

Not without a lot of work. There is currently s project for odroid.

I followed Abu's suggestion and bought the TM Nano M3 with a Netis 300Mbps wireless N adapter (the one WoS sell). I have the Nano working in client mode on an ethernet cable, but the instructions re the Netis are pretty light. Am I right in thinking I need to download a driver, and does anybody know if any of the drivers in the OpenVix plugins will work? Sorry if I should have posted this in another section.

The only problem I'm having with client mode on the cable so far is as follows. I'm using a VU+ Solo 2 as the host server. On this receiver I have one tuner on 28.2 and one on a movable dish, that due to a fault is stuck on 19.2. My problem is that if the Solo is on a 28.2 channel that is the only channel from that satellite that I can view on the client, whereas I can change and view channels on the 19.2 satellite. Is that normal? I was expecting that the channel in use would limit the ability to change just to channels on that transponder. All the bouquets from the VU+ have come across to the Nano. Once again thanks in advance for any advice.

According to the WOS site, the Netis drivers are pre-installed in ViX.

You need to reboot the box after the adapter has been plugged in.

Thanks. Once I knew the driver was there I entered the SSID and PW and the Nano has connected via wi-fi. There is the very slight occasional lag though, even with the client sitting beside the Virgin Media Superhub 2. Having said that, it seems better after a few minutes.

What is hte difference between this and fall back receiver?

Thanks,

FP.
