[VU+ Solo2] Softcam issue?

after testing for 24h starting Oscam manually using command line i have no problems of high ecm or Oscam stoping, looks like the problem is with Vix Softcam manager

Or the way the Mips boxes compile the python code? as the same code works on ARM boxes....

But I agree... take Softcam Manager (and ulimit) out and Oscam seems to work (quite) well!with low ecm times!

With the script that starts Oscam without Ulimit

/usr/softcams/oscam-latest -b

Oscam runs with low ecm times and is still running here after 27 hours, and is seen decoding a previously high ecm channel.

I don‘t know enough about Linux, but based on what we have seen, I believe the issue is down to the memory & swapping. E.g Arm boxes OK, OScam version is OK, SoftcamManager version does not change situation - its current OpenViX version that raises the issue.
When Oscam is started from the SoftcamManager it runs under the Enigma2 “address space“ (my terms) which is being paged to swap (because it is largest user), when Oscam is started via the script it is running under a different address space and either because of its priority or the size of its “address space“ (number of pages in use) is not being swapped - and there is no performance hit.

I don‘t know enough about Linux
Nor me!
@Twol - Three points:-
- Can we import other images Softcam Managers (for test purposes) - as they don't seem to have the problem with Mips boxes?
- Why do you think Oscam freezes the box and not other cams (under Softcam Manager)?
- When the memory management is removed from Oscam (Ulimit) , it appears to operate better from scripts. How is this explained?

1. - Can we import other images Softcam Managers (for test purposes) - as they don't seem to have the problem with Mips boxes? ......... not aware of any other images else not using scripts - if you know of one post here and I will have a look (if Open that is)
2. - why do you think Oscam freezes the box and not other cams (under Softcam Manager)? Don't know enough about softcams, but could be size of working set (number of pages) and the fact that the information (control information) is kept in the stack which is pageable
3. - When the memory management is removed from Oscam (Ulimit) , it appears to operate better from scripts. How is this explained? - I think the default stacksize is 2GB so you get even more to play with with ulimit not specified - does imply that if it gives better performance then Oscam stack is large.

EDIT: If you know the PID of the oscam process (nnnn),

cat /proc/nnnn/limits

will give its specific details.

Could still be relevant, can you try again with the standard ViX SoftcamManager (and also your script for comparison)?

Lots of google references to ulimit not being inherited by processes, so it could end up being lower than expected.

Already sent!

... well at least it confirms that the ulimits are as expected.

@johnhoe

Maybe see what the top command comes up with using the standard ViX SoftcamManager and then your script for comparison.

Abu's post#80 used htop.

you can install htop with telnet opkg install htop

Thanks, htop might be a bit clearer.
