[ViX_Misc] Subtitles Problem

I've tried MP4 with SRT subtitles and MKV with embedded subtitles.
Shows as enabled when pressing the subtitle button but nothing on screen.
Deselecting and reselecting brings them up.

If I switch to ServiceApp they work as expected.

Which receiver(s) are you using?? Just need to know whats playing the files when not using Serviceapp.
Can you also post or PM with a link to files that I can test, much easier if I know its causing you an issue. So serviceapp, I think turns on sub title automatically unless turned off, not sure about servicemp3/servicehisilicon

Just tested on openatv-7.4-ax61-20240706_multi

EMC uninstalled.
AX61 playing the previous test file from a NAS mount with default player.

It doesn't allow the forced subtitles. They are switched off by default in the GUI.
You have to switch them on manually, but they show immediately when selected.
I have to wait up to 30 seconds before they display on ViX.

Just tested on old (May image) ViX on ax61 …. Agree doesn,t play when set to auto, however enable and its instant.(playing from hdd)
Will explore further…

@Willo3092 .... OpenPli is not much better... started with subs but after stopping and resume .... No subtitles, have to turn off/on

@Willo3092 ....

Vu Uno4Kse - latest image position - using servicemp3
have allow subtitle original language = original audio language

Play new video ... plays sub titles. Stop video/Start video - sub titles enabled, but don't show- have to disable/enable. (same as OpenPli - not surprising as code basically the same )

AX61 - same setup - uses servicehisilicon
Have to enable sub titles to play them --- stop/restart - no subtitles and lo behold subtitle stream has been disabled!!

So servicemp3 is better, but forgets on restart, servicehilicon have to be manually enabled and it will destroy that setting after playing.

... and whichever box, once enabled they start immediately

Is servicemp3 the serviceapp serviceexteplayer3?

Is servicehisilicon something that can be disabled and just use default?

Is it possible to somehow copy the ATV player over to ViX or is it more complicated than that?
I don't mind it not playing forced subtitles by default but having to keep switching them on and off to get them to display is a pain.
The delay I get may be because I'm playing them from a NAS :confused:

"Is servicemp3 the serviceapp serviceexteplayer3?" No - its the standard player/recorder
"Is servicehisilicon something that can be disabled and just use default?" - yes you could and then you get servicemp3 - servicehisilicon is basically an "old" copy of servicemp3 modified for the HiSilicon boxes with no recording capabilities
"Is it possible to somehow copy the ATV player over to ViX or is it more complicated than that?" - why would you do that? Its nothing to do with this sub titles issue.
"The delay I get may be because I'm playing them from a NAS" - probably I don't see any delay.

Noticed
if I restart the box - its handling correctly the sub titles, so I have added more debug as I can potentially see a code issue - but need the debug - thanks for the video!-

@Willo3092 .... so looks like fixed servicemp3 IF you have "Allow subtitle language to equal audio language" set.

Will have a look at servicehisilicon

@Willo3092 - so servicehisilicon same code & fix

So if a video has multiple language subtitle tracks what do you want to happen??

Perhaps you can let me have another file if I have to code further options for multiple language testing.

I only use English so that I can read what the Americans are muttering about when watching movies.
I tend to download movies and, if it's one I want to keep, remove all languages apart from English and force it as default.

Is this a fix and a settings change?
I've just changed the settings and it's bringing up subtitles on live TV as well :confused:

Both the changes are C++ code changes….. currently only on my git
Normally you (apparently) cannot have audio language = sub title language displayed automatically.
I don,t see any sub titles (currently) with that setting on, but I guess depends on the service… what are you looking at?..

GB news, ITV and BBC tried and subtitles automatically showing.
If I turn them off, changing channel brings them back on.

These are my settings:

config.autolanguage.audio_usecache=False
config.autolanguage.equal_languages=1
config.autolanguage.subtitle_autoselect1=eng Englisch
config.autolanguage.subtitle_autoselect2=orj dos ory org esl qaa qaf und mis mul ORY ORJ Audio_ORJ oth

config.subtitles.pango_autoturnon=False
config.subtitles.subtitle_noPTSrecordingdelay=0

…and you don,t get sub titles now?
config.subtitles.pango_autoturnon Is only used by servicemp3 and servicehisilicon as far as I can tell - so the C++ code uses that if enabled to force sub title initiation, which was previously only done on each initilisation.

As before, subtitles set as default are enabled but not showing.
I have to switch off and back on again.

Ok will commit changes probably tomorrow to,servicemp3 & servicehisilicon,once some other C++ changes are finalised

On my Zgemma H9 Twin box i've always had problems with subtitles. I usually have to switch them off and on a few times to get them to work and often even that doesn't get them to show. If they're embeded into the file or external .srt I have difficulty with them either way.
