As the says. I cannot find the option to choose what state the receiver should return to after a power failure. Am I missing where it is, or it's not included in the image?

Reason:
After a power failure today and when it was restored. My diseqc mover steered to several satellites past where it was before the power went off.
The previously watched satellite was sent a go-to. The mover displayed the actual sat. that the dish was parked at before the power went off.
But it was East by 20 degrees. IE: Was at 127W, previous was 91W. Power went off. When It came back on the dish ran out to 91W but the display showed 127W.

Not the easiest but not hardest to correct either. Option 1. Unbolt the motor and run the actuator screw manually to the correct satellite. Bolt the motor back to the tube.
Option 2: Keep running the motor with the E-W RCU buttons on the mover until the satellite is found and signal peaked. Then (127W is the 0000 reference) reset the position reset on the mover menu.

I found to keep this from happening with other images. There was a menu selection to select what the receiver should do after a power failure.
Selecting "remain off" solved the glitch.
I do not see this option in ViX. Unless I messed the setting location in the tree.

Help?

This is nothing to do with the receiver. It is a problem between the v-box and the dish motor. All the box does is send a DiSEqC 1.2 position number to the v-box. It is not involved in the count from the reed switch in the 36V motor.

Sorry but not. It is a Titanuim Satellite ASC-1.
To simulate a power giltch. Rapidly flipping the power switch off and on. The dish mover simply powers up.

If the receiver and mover shuts down due to a momentary power loss. The mover will boot and be steady while the receiver goes through the boot procedure.
Powering back up after a "dirty shutdown".

Right before the receiver is ready to display the program it was previously tuned to. With the satellite graphic flashing in the upper left of the TV screen.
The mover is commanded to move. And will continue to move to the (perhaps previous satellite the receiver was tuned to on the last clean boot but not the current one when power was lost).
After the dish moves to the wrong satellite. The receiver will not send further go-to commands to the mover until shutdown clean (deep standby) and then a cold boot.

That is not the request. The request is. Can the selection that is in other E2 images to "Remain off" be slipped into vix? Did I mention Please?

In openatv, TNAP. The stay off selection is available. And if a power interruption occurs. The dish mover will never move on its own to wherever it pleases. Never, ever.
And. Why is every single request met with an operator, equipment fault? When the description of the issue is detailed in depth?

No, it is not something we have the intention of adding.

And how can a diseqc motor go to the wrong position, unless for some reason you are not using goToX.

Understood. Then could the module from another image be patched into vix?

How? The only repeatable scenario is described already.
To diagnose (for me at least) a data analyzer, MSO in storage mode. Tapped into the coax leading from receiver to mover
And then wait for the situation to occur. Fun? Sometimes, because electronics is my forte'. Programming? Not so much. That's your baby.

For you.
Sometimes the easiest fix is right in your face. Well. A willing face. Obviously not up 'certain folks' alley.
Never. Not once. Not even a hint. Ever. When the receiver is powered on and receiving a broadcast.
If the pixies flicker. And the settings for the receiver are set to restart in ass-lock. As in the attachment.
The dish mover will just reboot and set there.
When the receiver is powered on. The dish mover stays put.
When the receiver is commanded to go-to a different satellite. "Boo-Kay" as some brain trust decided to call it one fine day.
Wa-La! The mover commands the dish to move. And when it does, the actuator is powered. The encoder pulses the counter. And the dish stops right where is is supposed to.
Without fail.
I can draw up the unfamiliarity with diseqc on a man's dish with a motorized actuator versus the piddly usals motors. That's cool.
Something in the coaxial cable data stream when the receiver recovers from a dirty reboot sends a screwed up packet that sets the mover nuts.
But. If the power flickers briefly. Or the receiver is allowed to start up after an outage. Bingo.
Never allow it to restart until commanded to with the power switch or RCU? Everybody plays nicely.
Want more?

Where can I get and add the bit of code myself? I'm ready. Got electronics covered. Por fovore, parquero?

Assuming I can read whats in that screen correctly
If that's in OpenATV I cannot find it - is it in a plugin??

There is a "startuptostandby" plugin on the OpenViX feeds.

No idea what you are describing. DiSEqC motors do not have a counter.

Please post photos of the dish, dish motor and any other controller boxes you have attached.

Please close your eyes for a second. Then vision an Edision osmio4k. And a short piece of coaxial cable that connects to a Titanium Satellite ASC1 dish mover. There are these things called wires enclosed within two rubber jackets consisting of a pair of cables for DC power and encoder internal to the linear actuator. And from the rear of the dish mover. Oh heck, way-vos. Almost the same as a stinkin' vbox. Which operates a linear actuator. 36" in my case.
If I mentioned that the motor had a digital counter on it proper. Could be a typo. I mean, if you think I should glue one to it. Very doable and would count up and down. Oh! The ASC1 does something else no vbox could ever do. Control the servo motor in a Polorotor style feed. Haha! Had enough torture?

I shall compile a set of photos of my setup. In due time. You're a day late. And I'm around $200 USD short. Because as much as I like the ViX image. Without the option to select what to do upon a power loss and restore of. An APC Smart UPS 1500 watt battery backup. How much would it take to simply have the enthusiasm to slip in the option shown in the previous attachment?
And. Thanks, man.

Ten-Minutes-Later.
Installed the plugin. Only one option. Startup in standby. Every time the receiver is booted? Wouldn't a guy like to have a better selection? How lame is that? We need to have a serious sit-down with that coder dude.
John Wick style. With a pyen-cyl. lol

Like I said in post #2 this is nothing to do with the Edision receiver or OpenViX. The dish controller box has lost count.

No dude you're totally wrong and ditching the topic.
Let's review and clarify your assumptions and hasty conclusion.

The dish mover reboots and is ready to operate after a power "flicker".
To try to reproduce the scenario I have turned the receiver off with deep standby. A clean shutdown.

And then pulled the power cord from the wall socket to the point where the electrical connection can be momentarily severed.
Briefly disconnecting the power cord and then making contact again. Perhaps 1/10 second. As fast as able to. And with a bit more delay.
In each and every situation the mover will reboot and the counter ON THE LCD DISPLAY. Shows the last satellite position and numerical value.
The mover can be jogged East and West with the RCU, all functions are available. A satellite can be selected from it and sent a go-to. And return to the initial one.
It operates perfectly. In no instance will it ever run on its own after the above diagnostic and troubleshooting procedures.
Got it?

Now. If the receiver were to be on. And the mains voltage flickers to where both receiver and dish mover experience a momentary power interruption.
The dish mover reboots correctly. It will not glitch. Ready to operate. Counter correct. And the stored satellite name is up on the display with the correct info (stored memory slot, name, and encoder count).

The receiver is still booting. Taking a bit longer due to the internal house keeping that is done after a dirty shutdown.
At the moment right before a satellite channel is displayed on the TV. When the satellite dish graphic flashes and the signal strength has not shown in the lower right screen.
A command is sent from the receiver over coax that actuates the dish mover. Repeat. The dish mover has set there ready to operate and the display has timed out at 15 seconds.
The receiver sends a command that wakes the mover up and tells it to do some funky shit.

To conclude. The only way to prevent the situation from occurring is to prevent the receiver from starting up on its own after a power failure.
Requiring that the front panel power button or RCU power button be pressed. It has been diagnosed. Tested. And documented in detail.

If you are directly involved in coding and are familiar with the E2 file system. Perhaps. Again. You could share your knowledge and reveal as to where the various menu options are in it (the file system).
Python coding? And the components in the sub menus. Perhaps it could be something I could do on my own or seed a person with enthusiasm to see the need for the option and dive right in.

This is not a setting an application can do on its own. And Vix is an application that runs on a Linux OS.

It would require a BIOS setting to prevent the system powering up once it has power. Not sure whether any Vix boxes have this option.

However, If Vix has told the dish to go to X and it hasn't. That sounds like a dish problem.
If Vix hasn't told it anything because it asked where the dish was and was told "it is at X", and it's actually at Y. That sounds like a dish problem.

He is not using "GoToX"... the box has a separate positioner.

Please look at the attached images in #6. OpenATV has this option. It is nothing like a pc bios/uefi setting. But more like in a Windows pc in power options, what to do when the lid of a laptop is closed.

Everyone can hypothesize and make up excuses. One thing can be carved in stone. As explained and is missing from ViX.
If the receiver is not allowed to reboot and set to remain in a powered down state after a power failure.
The dish mover will never move on its own.
Even after a power failure and the receiver is off. Powering it on manually. The dish mover does not actuate the internal relays to send power to the linear actuator.
And the receiver boots to the last channel it was on when the power did fail.

I call it a "go-to" command. Similar to what Eutelsat calls it in the diseqc manual.
I have the equipment and skills to monitor the data stream coming from the coax that controls my ASC1 dish mover, diseqc 1.0 switch, and the voltage levels that would switch an lnbf between polarities or select Port A/B on a miltiswitch.
As well as 22 kHz signals that would control a tone switch and switch bands in an lnbf.
It's not really needed. As the easiest and most logical solution is to just not let the satellite receiver power back up after a power failure.
Ask yourselves. Why? Would the OpenATV team implement such an option to let the end user choose the selections?
That in itself would let you all invent all sorts of controversy and conspiracies.
For me. Having the selection is a very valuable advantage.
But. Not having it or the ability to select is a huge disadvantage. As well as a team with more arguments than solutions for what should be an easy thing to add.

No biggie. We'll get it. I'm that guy who would frequently park at an intersection and assist the blind lady cross to the other side safely when I saw her. And the guy who came upon a pickup truck in the rain with a guy trying to change a flat tire. The same guy who blew up at me at work and got his ass fired for it.

So, an option that can only be applied when the system is already powered on and running?

If the receiver is not allowed to reboot and set to remain in a powered down state after a power failure.
That would have to be a setting in the hardware (e.g. my NUC systems have this option in their BIOS/UEFI setting). By the time Vix gets hold of the system it is already powered up and running.

So either your model of what is happening is wrong, or you are not explaining it very well. Or both.

1, if your box is not sending the position command you have disabled it because by default it is enabled.

2, you are using a positioner. That equipment does not understand "GoToX" commands.

@ArloGuthrie - here are a couple of suggestions in order to establish what is happening here. Turn on debug logs. This will give the devs an indication as to what is happening during the initial enigma load phase and the diseqc commands issued. Perform your simulation of a power cut and post the log which is created after the reboot. I'm surprised no-one has asked for logs and settings details already. Not all devs use english as a first language, so a less staccato/conversational writing style, using full sentences, might help to get your point across better.

The difficulty I have in following your issue is that the receiver, if set up correctly, should only send Diseqc GOTO Nn (position 1-99) commands to your positioner depending on which satellite is to be tuned. So, on boot up after a power cut, the receiver will either send a GOTO Nn (last satellite position number tuned) or a GOTO Nn (menu set power up satellite position number) to your positioner. It's up to the positioner to take the Nn and translate that into a number of motor pulses to move the actuator jack to the correct satellite position. If you have the menu setting (default) to tune to the last channel tuned on power-up, then enigma will send a GOTO Nn which matches the satellite number last tuned. Providing your positioner is powered up and active at that time it should receive the command and do either nothing or else move to that satellite position if on another. I could conceive of a situation where you have a specific power-up channel set in the receiver and the positioner is actually pointed at a different satellite and somehow fails to receive the command, so the tune fails. But, a subsequent channel selection in the receiver will send another GOTO Nn to the positioner and all should be well if the communication path between receiver and positioner is good. I use a USALS compatible motor (small dish!) and this uses a GOTO X (where X is a receiver calculated angle east or west of the motor zero position). Even if I drive the motor manually using another receiver while the first receiver is powered off, a couple of channel changes on the first receiver will cause the motor to re-position on the correct satellite afterwards.

Joe, there a default on setting somewhere, I'm not at home so can't check where... send DiSEqC on every channel change. If that is set to no then it won't send the command on restart.

Otherwise it will always send that command for current startup channel. And impossible to send a position number that is not related to the current channel.

There is a setting in the setup menu to always send DiSEqC, but I thought that it was related to switch configuration, not specifically motor. I'm finding it difficult to understand how the start-up is messing @ArloGuthrie's positioner as it only sends position number commands. I've looked at the user manual for his ASC positioner and it just uses DiSEqC 1.2 protocol, so GOTO Nn (where Nn is 01-99). I tend to use GOTO X to refer to calculated angular positioning as per USALS, but the ASC manual uses X to mean 01-99 satellite positions so the terminology is "loose".

@Huevos - I've fired up my receiver and configured for DiSEqC 1.2 but I can't see any option for "always send DiSEqC". Can't see it in the channel settings menu either. Here's a screenshot of DiSEqC 1.2 positioner menu config. Maybe @ArloGuthrie could post a screenshot of his config, please? But, please use a higher resolution image setting as his previous screenshot was very low-res.
