Hi everyone,

I’m restarting the satellite hobby after ~10 years and want to rebuild a clean, high-quality setup from scratch (dish + STB).

After research, my understanding is that a true Enigma2 Linux STB (vendor-unlocked) is required for full freedom with softcams and long-term usability. Please correct me if I’m wrong.. What else os i shoudl go for?

Core requirements

  • 4K UHD with hardware HEVC / H.265 decoding
→ Any newer standards needed to stay future-proof for ~5 years (10-bit, S2X, multistream, etc.)?
  • Excellent video output quality
→ Clean HDMI, accurate colors, good scaling (I’m a videophile)
  • Fast channel zapping & responsive UI
  • Unlocked softcam support
  • Good tuner sensitivity
→ Stable lock on weak / marginal signals
  • Single tuner only (no dual tuner, no PVR, no recording)
  • Clean, premium-looking UI (subtle colors, no flashy skins)
  • Strong image support: OpenATV / OpenPLI / OpenVIX
  • Budget: max ₹8,000 INR (lower is better)

Usage pattern

  • Live TV only (no recording, no timeshift)
  • Using C-lines from any seller (full freedom required)
  • Tracking European satellites (e.g. 42E, 52E, 13E, 16E, 9E, etc.)
  • Priority = best possible picture quality, not extra features
  • Display & audio setup:
    • 65″ QLED TV
    • Yamaha RX-V3072 AV receiver

Questions

  1. Is Zgemma H9S / H9S SE the best option near ₹8k, or is there a more future-proof Enigma2 box (better SoC, tuner, or video output)?
  2. Are there any other single-tuner Enigma2 STBs worth considering in this budget?
  3. For future-proofing, what actually matters beyond 4K HEVC?
    • HEVC 10-bit?
    • DVB-S2X?
    • Multistream (T2-MI)?
  4. Cheap / non-Enigma2 boxes (Ali, GX, Android + S2,):

    • Which brands / firmware types should be avoided (fake Enigma2, Android hybrids, etc.)?
  5. Which Enigma2 image / OS is best for:
    • Fast channel zapping
    • Clean, premium UI design
    • Best video output quality

Bonus question (for learning)

Apart from better hardware, what premium features do top-tier STBs offer that I’ll be missing by choosing a low-cost box?
(e.g. multi-tuners, advanced PVR, blindscan quality, networking, streaming, etc.)

What I’m looking for in replies

  • 2–4 specific STB recommendations
  • Short pros / cons (tuner quality, video output, image support)
  • Any gotchas before buying (fake Enigma2, locked firmware, weak tuners)

Thanks — I’m aiming for a simple, premium-feeling Enigma2 box with the best possible picture quality and full softcam freedom, without wasting money on features I don’t need.

Becareful where this thread goes in terms of C-lines, IKS etc.... On this Forum we do not discuss obtaining pay tv by illegal means. Re-read the rules.

Lets cut to the chase the UNO4KSE ticks all the boxes and if you don't want to spend your money you are wasting your time. The best OS is Openvix. And as you have been away 10 years it doesn't matter how many tuners a box has you can always disable those not required.

what about zero 4k?
