Build my own Vix image

Then you would need to create a patch.
I did, but I'll replace it with the code change from there.

Then I have the question of whether the other patches (for building OE5.6 on Ubuntu 26.04) should also be submitted as PRs?

@birdman Can you run a build on a broadcom box e.g. Vu+ 4k receiver - as that is where we are seeing failures

I created a new build-enviroment for OEA-5.6 AX61 on Ubuntu 26.04 but still fails.

@Willo3092 … can you post the log?

Here it is:
Interesting.
That contains line like this:

which is a result of rust-coreutils tail being used, and a bug in pseudo (the "couldn't allocate...").

The fix for the former was to use the gnu versions of the coreutils:
https://github.com/openembedded/openembedded-core/commit/16f2684ebeffa72b5d90525cf9102751b68c298e
and pseudo was updated in January
https://git.yoctoproject.org/pseudo/commit/?id=9ce8c09980af23ebd4ebf072010469882d0459a6

I take it you do have gnu-coreutils installed?

PS: I do not see these messages.

I have the question of whether the other patches (for building OE5.6 on Ubuntu 26.04) should also be submitted as PRs?
The answer is going to be as long as those pull requests don't impede building on 24.04.

I have only installed Ubuntu 26.04 and mounted an Ext4 partition as ViX in my home directory.
Then installed the build packages and setup the build-enviroment as per the build instructions.

So you are also building with a non standard OE-A 5.6 build system?
Which is why you are not seeing these issues.
The last sub module update for this external packges was 7 months go and its unlikely that OE-A 5.6 will be updated to encompass these changes when OE-A 6.0 is available.

I do have the "use gnu tools" patch in place, as it's needed for builds on 25.10 and my test builds are just snapshots of that.

You could try adding it.....

PS: vuduo4k build is at 38%.

I've set off a vudiuo4k build.
Which, apart from a hiccup over a missing Proc/ProcessTable.pm for the usb-dvb-dvbsky-160430-r0 build, completed OK.
(I did omit the libproc-processtable-perl package when I upgraded to 26.04, not thinking I needed it for anything).

So, it looks like that gnu-tools patch is the issue.

I though it had arrived in the default environment, but it seems that is only the case for OE6.0

I can't see anyway to override a function within a bbclass file, so it looks like you'd just have to apply the patch manually.

@birdman - thanks for following through, so at least we know what is possible providing people can apply that patch.
