For al the people having issues with spinning VIX its best to have all your EPG/PICONS/SWAPFILE on a usb stick

In my case at least my picons, epg and swapfile are all on a Sandisk Cruzer Blade USB,
And this setup runs flawlessly on other images (VIX and PLI) but is painfully laggy on 2.1 constant hanging often gets to the stage where I would hard reset, but alas no crash logs.

In spite of having asked that a couple of times already, I never got an answer to my question "why on earth would you want to use a SWAP-file?" There is plenty of memory available, so chances are great that a SWAP-file will only slow your system down.

Because Linux has a very good memory management, always uses as much memory as possible, does not need more memory then it needs, and USB is much slower then RAM. You really have to install an enormous amount of picons and other plugins in order to get into trouble (if you even succeed in getting problems, which is unlikely)

The idea to use a SWAP-file is a typical Windows-philosophy (if Windows used all memory you indeed are in trouble). There is absolutely no advantage in making available more memory then is needed (especially not if that memory is slow).

There can be a limited number of exceptions to this rule, e.g during a filecheck on a very large drive.

Back on VIX 2.1, thanks guys.
Is there a list of changes/updates anywhere I can read?
Support for AVI's seems much better, no jerking on the movie I'm watching now. Presume that's down to new VU drivers?

can't say the same for me , I still get quite a bit of jerkyness on 2 avi's I have tried : (

This might sound dumb (i know it does) but im missing software management from my blue button and cant do any online updates ???? anyone have any idea whats gone wrong ??

The server has moved to a new location, everything needs to settle down and propagate. I would ruch to update this morning as I've just found a bug in the updates. Bug might have been caused by the move.

Cheers Sic but what i meant was I have no option on the box for software management ??? its not on the blue button and i cant find it in the menu either ??

I updated a couple of days ago and now i'm getting green screens all the time when doing simple things like changing channel???

reboot your box, i had that and a reboot sorted it out

tried that i still have no software update option ?? also get a green screen when i go to : menu / info???

im going to reflash when i get time and see what happens then.

yeh there is a bug in the updates, just wait for a bit and that should be rectified later today and then do an online update and that should fix the problems

Has the latest update for VIX 2.1 also got a problem with time-shift, as I can only rewind till when the current event started, even though I have set it to 5 events and up to 180 minutes.

I also have an issue with the latest update. Every time i change channel I get a green screen crash and the box restarts! Is there any news on the fix for this or should i re-flash?

I am having problems with SoftwareManager plugin. When I install it I get the following error meesage:

Some plugins are not available:
SystemPlugins/SoftwareManager (local variable 'image_type' referenced before assignment)
