I did an online update last night (22 updates)

im still getting the odd "Tune Failed"

Last night i was watching ITV1 it was fine for about 2hrs then popped up tune failed!

Rebooted the box and was fine for another 5 mins then tune failed.

Rebooted again and was fine the rest of the night??

any ideas?

The box is doing something in the background and using up memory hence the spinner and we need to find out what. Maybe suma causing hdd to spin up. Do u use PTS?
The spinner is gone after turing off timeshift. Thanks for pointing in the right direction.

Vix 2.3 after a fortnight of use

I updated from Vix 2.2.110 to Vix 2.3 about two weeks ago. I've updated further to build 124.

I'm sure that there are many changes that have been worked on but I will focus on the things that affect my normal usage:

I use an Avermedia Twinstar (A825) twin DTT which is based on the af9035. I was able to install drivers for this usb stick using the Italiasat plugin. Thus I have four tuners, the onboard sat tuners and the Twinstar terrestial tuners. Under Vix 2.2.110 the system would 'fall over' with video corruption and ultimately hang if left. I set the box to re-boot everyday and this tended to reduce the problem. I also made a point of never leaving the box on terrestial channels unless I was watching or recording them.

With Vix 2.3 Build 124, I have been running the same hardware with no corruption problems. For some reason the cause (a memory leak in the previous version or previous drivers?) has been reduced or fixed. This is a wonderful improvement for which I'm very grateful. There was a minor problem with scanning the terrestrial channels but I was able to get around this by deleting all but the Australian block of the terrestrial.xml file.

I noticed that there were a lot of posts by people wrestling with the new OSD setup. I have experienced similar problems. I can set it up perfectly using 720p but not quite when I use my preference of 1024i. I'm using a Sony Bravia 46cm LCD set to 'Full' mode and I have the problem with the Vix HD skins and also the Magic HD skins. (I normally use the Magic HD). The problem is that I need to shift the OSD to the right by 40 but this causes the maximum width setting to be restricted to 680 (ie 720 - 40). This leaves a gap of about 20 on the right side of the screen. This is no big deal really... seems like a 'feature' of the software rather than a 'bug'. Even though I'm using 1024i, the OSD software uses 720 as the adjustment basis it seems. I guess if the width wasn't reduced to 680 then it would work better with my TV.

For me (with my tuner setup) this image is a massive improvement on the previous one simply because it works for days in a row without corrupting. Thanks fellas (and especially Andy Black) for all the effort involved.

I also like the current version of the MyTube plugin... seems to have lost the corny skin of the last version.

cheers from Oz

Just a quick question. I think my 2.3 image is corrupted because when I do an overair upgrade it just hangs part way through, have to switch off at rear panel. So if I download the image from here is it the latest build. Otherwise it's a flash and then upgrade ? Yes.

yes just download a fresh version of the image then do a full online update, before installing any plugins etc.

i dont use any plugins or anything like that but seem tune failed problem has gone away after the online update.

BUT

its created a new issue

On some channels mainly ITV1 HD there is a big black bar on the top of the screen has if its off center

also SD channels have massive bars on the right hand side.

i can take a pic if needed

any idea??

Great image guys but just a couple of questions please.

Whats the world symbol next to the rec symbol on the on screen banner?

Also why on my system do i have SNR 80-90% AGC 0%
On my mates its SNR 40-50% AGC 85%

I'm at work and not near my box rite now so forgive me if I can't remember the menu structure, menu / system / setup then there's a option in there to adjust the tv picture some where set it to just scan.

As above I'm not near my receiver but if you mean the green flashing light that's the indicator that there are updates for the image available.

To update the image. Blue button / ViX / software update.

Yeah thats the one!!! Thanks.

When i try to do this though it says 'nothing to upgrade' even though the Vix team have released a new update today?

I've got a strange problem... I use the timer to zap to a couple of channels during the night, in order to update the EPG. This works better for me than the rytec/cross solution. However, when the STB is starting up, it does also turn on my Samsung TV. This happens even if all settings in the HDMI-CEC menu is set to "No", except from "Activated", "Put TV in standby" and "Switch TV to correct input".

Any advice, or is this a bug..?

First of all: for that kind of EPG refreshing there's a special plugin: "EPG Refresh". Good and easy to configure.
Secondly: set the upper line in the plugin HDMI-CEC to "no".

I will try the EPG-plugin you're referring to, but if I set the upper line to "NO", the HDMI-CEC function is totally disabled, and that is not what I want. I think it's great to turn off the TV together with the STB, and it is also great that it switches the TV to the correct HDMI-input. I just don't want it to turn on the TV when it is starting... However, if I find the EPG-plugin, I guess that the problem is solved, or at least worked around. Thanx!

Hi,
I am trying to set up VLC to play streams from the network. I have some very long FQDN to type in and using the remote is a nightmare for this. Does anyone know if there is a local file that I can edit in the file system of the vu box running 2.3?
Thanks

Pause a Radio rec ording

Hi,

I was listening to a recording of a radio channel and I put it on Pause for a few mins the "||" thingy appeared in the top left and the audio was off but when I restarted it I noticed that it was way past that point and actually it didn't pause at all. I tried again and I noticed that in fact the timer was still running. I don't remember if I did this in Vix 2.2 but probably this is something new in 2.3.

Only thing out of the ordinary is the Radio station was NPR (10723H on 13.0 E) which is listed in the settings that I use (Vhannibal) in the TV section but Vix shows the Radio screen and it works normally as all the other radio channels.
