[OS-mio] 6.6.010 Power Option Menu Missing

Not open for further replies.
Yes, it is not limited to motors. It sends the full diseqc command on every channel change irrespective of whether required.

So, an option that can only be applied when the system is already powered on and running?

That would have to be a setting in the hardware (e.g. my NUC systems have this option in their BIOS/UEFI setting). By the time Vix gets hold of the system it is already powered up and running.

So either your model of what is happening is wrong, or you are not explaining it very well. Or both.
The easiest option for anyone questioning the usage and function of the power option is very simple. Install OpenATV in a slot. You don't even have to thoroughly configure it. Just get it working with the preliminary setups common to E2 images.
No dude. It is not a presumptuous "setting in the hardware". It is a setting in the configuration menu. No need to go on with this. The explanation is clear and then had to be expanded to detail over and over.
It is NOT a hardware setting. See the menu in the images I attached? Experience it yourself and just simply install ATV.
And NO and YES. To set the option you have to be able to open the menu to access it. Is that clear?
Once the option is set. The verbiage is clear as to what each selection should do. What is not clear (except the German language selection option).
THEN. Once you get ATV installed and the options selected ONE-BY-ONE. Save the menu and exit it.
With the receiver powered on. Walk your happy a** over to your power strip, wall receptacle. Grab that wall wart power supply. And give it a yank.
Plug it back in. And see how the receiver behaves.
Then once you, yourself see the result of your selection in the configuration menu.
Make another selection and save it.
Repeat. And then again for the third selection.
Certainly that cannot be more clear of an explanation.

Now. If this appendage to what initiated as a simple request is not 100% clear and concise.
PLEASE. Line-by-line state your confusion and inquiry.
Double space it so that I may insert the reply in-between.

Time after time in other forums I have assisted others by paralleling the steps that they go through or that I may need to that provides a possible solution and clarification.
Never an "aww, screw it" attitude with 0 effort or a closed mindset.
Thank you. You all would make a pretty good comedy show lineup.
Or perhaps a good stand-in for the 'possum on Fantastic Mr. Fox when asked a simple question. With those Spitfire spiraling propeller cowling eyes.

Jesus! Another forum member is asking me where Automaticbackupsuite is in OpenViX. It ain't in the plugins download menu. Or is it? The webif package search comes up blank.
Heaven forbid I ask where I may obtain that!!!!
Haha!! "Bloke. It's in the BIOS or UEFI". "Een ploin soight, bugger!!"

I don't have ATV installed. Please explain what it does.

Okay. I know when I'm being played.
For the backup. Which is not included in the plugins download list. My friend is elated to get a clear, concise solution.

enigma2-plugin-extensions-automatic-fullbackup_7.2_all.ipk

What is TNAP, OpenPLI, all E2 images from other sites?

https://www.opena.tv/app.php/portal

Perhaps you would care to take it for a test drive and see for yourself.
Then delve in deeper to locate the module that cures the issue.

Go home. Do your homework. And put your work on my desk in the morning. I grade on diligence, accuracy and enthusiasm.
....back to reballing and replacing a set of memory chips on a 3090

No one is "playing" you. Produce logs of your issue and then the devs will investigate.

Why would need an extra backup plugin when it already has a backup application embedded?

I am pleased to see that terminal was added to the webif. Did I not bring attention to that?
I mean. Why would a guy need terminal in the webif when there are great applications like putty?

Yeah, Huevos. I showed the fellow where the built in utility is. That's how I perform mine. A good thing since a stupidassed update wipes my custom satellites.xml and softcam settings.
Maybe he was accustomed to accessing it through the plugins menu. Dunno.
Possible to add a third party feed to OpenViX? (i'd call it ViX but then the 'possum prop spinners would be a-spinnin').
Anyway I believe he now has two methods to perform a backup. Because like why does a dog lick itself? Because he can.

Nah. I ain't sending no stinkin' logs on this one. If you can't add the option in the menu like (here goes....the anti-prop-spinner powder) OpenATV.
What makes me think that anyone would be even able to read a log? That would not be needed. If......
Of course this comes from a team of people who lost the sale of a VU+ receiver "with my choice of tuner".
Who could not produce even a single screenshot of the receiver Menu>Information>Devices with the different tuners plugged in.
Which would help in choosing one. Because my understanding is that any VU+ with a pluggable tuner sucks at blindscanning.
If the correct one is not used. Heaven forbid WOS open a tiny box and take a detailed photo. Or anything else besides a stock photo.

who's on first. You played me well.

If you put a user satellites.xml in the wrong place, yes of course it gets wiped.

It is NOT a hardware setting. See the menu in the images I attached?
Think about this.
You want the hardware to stay off on a power reset,
But you expect this to be done by an application that can only run when the hardware is powered on.

Catch 22.

@ArloGuthrie - in relation to your much requested Power Menu option a la OpenATV, I took some time and checked it out to confirm exactly what it's doing. As you have been told several times in the thread, there is no way to get the receiver to go straight into some kind of standby state after a power failure. I set the Power Menu option in ATV and briefly powered off the receiver by pulling the plug. There is absolutely no difference in the start up sequence. enigma is loaded after the normal linux start up and then OpenATV starts doing its thing. Here's the OpenATV log where it checks if it has been shut down cleanly beforehand.

Code:
2024-12-08 00:48:04.7470 < 24.696608> [StartEnigma] Last shutdown=False. (True = last shutdown was OK.)
2024-12-08 00:48:04.7471 < 24.696679> [StartEnigma] NOK shutdown action=standby.
2024-12-08 00:48:04.7471 < 24.696732> [StartEnigma] Boot action=normal.
2024-12-08 00:48:04.7472 < 24.696798> [StartEnigma] Last shutdown=False.
2024-12-08 00:48:04.7535 < 24.703111> [Skin] Processing screen 'MessageBox' position=(240,160), size=(800,400) for module 'MessageBox'.
2024-12-08 00:48:04.7678 < 24.717413> [MessageBox] Timeout set to 120 seconds.

As you can see, the application has loaded and is checking for a previous clean shutdown flag. It pops a message on-screen and asks the user if she wants the receiver to go into standby. If no response, the default is to put the receiver in standby after a timeout.

Here's the kicker, though. 400ms later, OpenATV sends a DiSeqC command to my motor to position on the last satellite location tuned.

Code:
2024-12-08 00:48:05.1968 < 25.146376> [eDVBSatelliteEquipmentControl] PolarmountHourAngle=143.622815
2024-12-08 00:48:05.1968 < 25.146401> [eDVBSatelliteEquipmentControl] RotorCmd = e246
2024-12-08 00:48:05.1968 < 25.146423> [eDVBSatelliteEquipmentControl] RotorCmd e246, lastRotorCmd ffffffff
2024-12-08 00:48:05.1969 < 25.146456> [eDVBSatelliteEquipmentControl] set rotor timeout to 360 seconds
2024-12-08 00:48:05.1969 < 25.146500> [eDVBFrontend0] prepare_sat System 1 Freq 10817500 Pol 1 SR 23000000 INV 2 FEC 3 orbpos 282 system 1 modulation 2 pilot 2, rolloff 1, is_id -1, pls_mode 1, pls_code 0, t2mi_plp_id -1 t2mi_pid 4096
2024-12-08 00:48:05.1969 < 25.146526> tuning to 1067 MHz
2024-12-08 00:48:05.1970 < 25.146615> [eDVBCIInterfaces] addPMTHandler 1:0:19:287B:800:2:11A0000:0:0:0:

So, no - there is no magic way to suppress the boot up sequence of these receivers. OpenATV does the same as OpenVix and sends a positioner command (goto angle or goto stored position number) after a boot up, either clean or after a power cut. Without you providing evidence in the form of logs to identify the issue with your positioner box, this thread is going nowhere.

I give up.

If you want a foolproof solution use a power socket with RCB protection (not rcb circuit breaker) as the power goes off the socket will trip and you manually have to reset it.

I've already purchased a UPS. The switchover time is very minimal. So far with several unplugs from the wall. No noticable switchover time from mains and inverter. To use your RCB would require going to the service enclosure to reset the device.
A positive and proven method was found. Where that resides in OpenATV is the question.
A knowledgeable Linux person in another forum. Without seeing any code but described the function in the OpenATV option.....
Was that during boot. While in init 4 and before init 3 is sent to initialize E2. A piece of code possibly could run with bits set that issue one of the 3 commands in the options menu.
Then again. The other newer post about a power state query "may be implemented in the next release".

If you have no knowledge of where the piece of code is. Or if you have not yourself loaded OpenATV on your receiver to test drive it and see the functions for yourself.
Any further conversation on this subject is a waste of both yours and my time.
The response from the Linux programmer who immediately had an idea of what may be occurring. With 0 knowledge of Enigma 2 whatsoever. Was almost immediate.
It is disgusting. As they say. Some dogs just won't hunt.
But. Hey, thanks. The memory reball went well and another happy customer with a very expensive GPU card.

Joe_90. I will look at post 30 in depth. When and if the occurrence ever happens again. Which is highly unlikely since my entire satellite system is on a UPS.
I do see in the log that a USALS motor is probably what you have. And although you may experience a boot to a working Enigma 2 OpenATV screen whatever the option for what to do after power loss.
I can absolutely, positively assure you that My Edision OsMio4k and Zgemma H7 will never complete a boot sequence if the option is set in OpenATV.
And you ARE correct. This topic has gone every which way but what the Linux fan aired to me. "Oh, That!!"
