60m Cable Run

Hi Guys

Just wondering if anyone has a long cable run between the receiver and dish. My dad ran a cable up the garden when re-doing it, but has yet to use it. We're looking at putting a 1.2m up to try and receive 7W. We're on the south coast of England so hopefully 1.2m will be enough, but I fear the 60m cable run will cause enough drop in signal to make it an issue.

The 28.2E dish is on the house, but wouldn't have line of sight with 7W, hence the cable run down the garden.

Any input appreciated.

Did he use decent coax? 60m would be fine for 28.2E but for 7W he might be struggling. I'm sure you need nearer a 1.8m - 2m dish for 7W in uk

60m should be fine as long as you have used decent quality WF100 or better still WF125. If you have used RG6 you may be struggling, although as long as the signal has decent quality you may get away with sticking an in line amplifier on the cable. If the quality isn't there its not going to make any difference as all you will have is a more powerful signal with poor quality.

Its back to the old polishing a turd analogy. It doesn't matter how much you polish a turd, its still a turd.

If you amplify a crap signal its still a crap signal, just a stronger crap signal

As for the 1.2m dish you will definitely get some of the channels off 7w although there isn't much margin for rain fade. I can get some of the stuff of 7w on my 1m Gilbertini in the Midlands so you should definitely get something, although how much is dependent on how good the quality of the 1.2m dish is.

I have 85 metres to my T90 with 8 LNB´s and zero problems in the last... 9 years.
Invest in quality cables, always worth it.

Cheers guys. We did it about 2 years ago so we don't remember the type of cable, but he intentionally bought a good quality cable. I may just get a cheap zone 1 dish and see what the signal drop is before investing in a decent dish and LNB.

Was looking at either the Raven 1.2 or the Gilbertini 1.25.

It's quite a gamble, as it will be a few hundred pounds to see if we get the JSC channels... Looking on other forums there is quite a bit of success with 1m on the south coast though.

Edit to clarify: Main channel interest is JSC HD6, which is on Eutelsat on a vertical beam.
