Israel’s Amos-5 satellite has certain unexplained problems. Reports suggest that Amos-5, which was launched in June 2011 to the new orbital position (for owners Spacecom) of 17 degrees East, has problems with its propulsion sub-systems.
Amos-5 was placed at 17 degrees East specifically to attack “Africa’s emerging satellite services market”.
The reports suggest that insurance giant Marsh has received notice that an insurance claim might be forthcoming.
Spacecom declined to comment on the reports.
Earlier this week Paris-based digital TV service OFIVE signed to join a French-language bouquet transmitting from Amos-5. Spacecom has also enjoyed success signing US up fresh contracts (via DRS Technical Services Ltd) for the Department of Defense for US Armed Forces services support.
