I tried it, it didnt help.

I got the stick working in the end silverfox, its just slow....

OK for watching encrypted channels, just not good for transferring files, barely getting an inconsistent 1mb/s, was getting a nice solid 4-5mb/s before with the rt2870sta driver.

ahhhh i think i see the issue here

Code:
rt2870sta: remove driver (replaced by mainline rt2800usb)
this in new linux 3 kernal change logs for wifi amongs others
try using the new firmware and modules and see what that gives ya

Well that is what I am using ;)

Seem to be getting a lot of packet loss :/

Code:
wlan0 IEEE 802.11bgn ESSID:"BRW"
          Mode:Managed Frequency:2.462 GHz Access Point: 00:8B:5D:AA:A0:22
          Bit Rate=65 Mb/s Tx-Power=20 dBm
          Retry long limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
          Encryption key:off
          Power Management:on
          Link Quality=51/70 Signal level=-59 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
          Tx excessive retries:968 Invalid misc:220 Missed beacon:0

have you added rt2870sta to the blacklist list so it doesnt try to load and hence only load rt2800usb

The rt2870sta module isnt included anymore, it worked ok with that one :/
