I am running VIX v2.0 image. When using satfinder I can lock on 0.8 West fine.
But I cant lock onto 1W - this is a problem as when I go onto 1W in the bouquet menu all of the entries are faint and will not allow me on. Is there a way of enabling 1W selection in the tuning menu. When I scan 0.8 it will not find the TV 2 PLHD channels they only seem visible under 1W. I hope my question is clear, Thanks in advance.

no such satellite as 1.0 west, 0.8 west is what people refer to as 1 west.
upload a new satellites.xml file to your box and do a rescan on 0.8 west.

I'm using catseye bouquets and in there there is a 1w. Channels and bouquets are fine so it doesnt bother me.

Phoenix is right, you have a difference between your satellites and the reference in the bouquets. You'd sometimes see a similar problem with some using 28.4 and 28.2.

No i,m afraid you are wrong pheonix. look at this chart
Code:
http://www.satsig.net/spectrums-europe.htm

1 west is 0.8 west dont be so pernickity pheonix, thats like saying 28.2 is not 28.5,its the same thing so catseye is correct

i know full well where the satellite is located, and yes it has for years been commonly referred to by amateurs and enthusiasts as 1 west even if it is wrong. my point being is its location is 0.8 west not 1 west. as for sky, well thats 2 different satellites ( actually 4 ) astra 2b,2a,2d orbiting around 28.2 and eurobird 1 orbiting at 28.5 east.

also for the record we do not allow live links on the forum so i have edited your post to remove this live link via use of coded brackets.

ok people before things here get silly i'm going to clear a few things up.

i did not make my post in this thread to be anally retentive or anything like that. however even in the satellites.xml file on your receiver ( unless the person making the bouquet files edited this ) it is shown as
THOR 5/6 INTELSAT 10-02 0.8 WEST
as clearly shown both
Code:
http://www.satellites-xml.eu/
and here
Code:
http://en.kingofsat.net/news0.8W.php

in fact the thor satellites are the ones broadcast from 0.8 west where as the intelsat bird does indeed broadcast from 1 west, however like sky uk with 28.2 / 28.5 east it has been amalgamated into the existing network at 0.8 west.

i simply pointed this out as i know of many many people who get hopelessly lost while looking for 1 west rather than its true location of 0.8 west.

and while i'm at it, i''l make a small correction. yes there was indeed a 1.0 west in the old analogue days but this is no longer as it has been amalgamated into the general 0.8 west network.

My point is you have said that catseye is wrong when in fact catseye is not,you are infact wrong pheonix and like dfdream says there has been some confususion.

1w is 0.8 everyone make no dought about that, were talking 0.2 degrees here, (1west) has 14 beams and whether you want to call it 0.8 or 1 west its still 1 west, anyone that has any satellite skills and knowledge will realise this and will acknowledge that also!!!

actually i clearly stated what that edit was for and i standy by it ( the portion highlighted red.) i'm closing this thread now pending admin approval as in my opinion your just trying to start a slagging match, and you certainly wont get one from me.

guys,

this could have been sorted with one post, instead arguing who right and who's wrong we should concentrate to helping the thread starter,

@martins

ftp into your box and open this file in a text editor. '/etc/tuxbox/satellites.xml'

search for "0.8w" there should be 2 instances. replace them both with "1.0w" (without quotes). them restart your gui.

that should get you up. i'll add this into next update.

but the cateye should really be using standard satellites.xml file ie (correct is settings file to use 0.8w)

Andy.
