Choices, choices

I was looking at http://www.world-of-satellite.com/s...ch-Receiver-Would-You-Buy&p=320114#post320114 and realised I was about two stages earlier on, hence this separate post.

We have just moved house to a place that has a new TV aerial on the roof plus a Sky dish and Sky box (paid for a year) plus one spare feed from the sky dish.

We used Topfields at our old place (freeview – with the mystuff distro) but both are dead just now (**) and I’m stuck with the Mickey Mouse interface of the Sky box.

So now what?

If I’m right I could use the Sky box to drive a satellite receiver or use the spare leads to get a raw Freeview satellite feed?

And I could also (with the right tuner) pick up Freeview from the roof aerial?

** Topfields tend to eat capacitors and small SCSI drives as they do not have a fan - and my jury rig fan is not very efficient.

Yes that would do.
I Have similar ie Golden interstar LX-3, sort of same config
Get one with at least 2 satellite tuners and 1 dvb t/c tuner (Cable or Ter )
Use the spare sat lead to go to sat input 1
On the sky box I believe you have a loop through LNB connector, use this for sat input 2
and the DVB C/T tuner connect to either a ter TV antenna or Cable input.
If you have the sky sat on you will lose the sat 2 input on the new receiver but you will be able to use it when it is either in standby of off.

If you want Ter. tv and Cable I think you will need 2 dvb T/C tuners

So
2 x DVB-S tuners
2 DVB T/C Tuners

That unit will give you 4x Freeview HD tuners. How many tuners do you require for each satellite and terrestrial?

Freesat and sky are the same things in the case of tuners used, so you would need two sat tuners and a terrestrial / cable combo tuner ?.

The LX-3 has the better tuner config
ie
The VU+
2 tuner slots only
You can use 2 twin tuners ie 4 inputs but if you put in a dvb t/c tuner you lose 2 and end up with 3 - 2 sat / 1 dvb T/C

The LX-3 has 4 tuner slots so 4 inputs 3 x sat 1 x T/C or 2xsat 2x DVB t/C

The LX-3 is more versatile

Mutant HD2400 has four individual Tuner slots, so dont have to use any embedded tuners like the LX3.

Cant comment on XBMC yet, hoping to get a access to private non public test soon.

My Duo2 has been boxed up since had the HD2400, much prefer it.

I use aZotac Zbox for XBMC works a treat
Synology disksatation as media server

Okay - have day at home today waiting for deliveries so playing around

Walked through set up no probs including wired network

Issues are ;

1) Box does not recognise the USB WiFi adaptor you supplied - do I need some kind of fix?

2) Someone said above i could feed the Sky input though the Mut@ant - what is the best way to do this? Its not obvious to me where i should draw the Sky box output from.
