difference between openvixhd apollo & openvix apollo? & this error "gz_open: fork: Ca

Hi all

I have a vu+ duo and when i try to install plugins from either the download feed or from the tmp folder it fails with this message "gz_open: fork: Cannot allocate memory" and i have no idea why :/

This is after a fresh install of openvixhd-Apollo.080-vuduo_usb.zip

Should i be installing the non hd openvix image and could someone please tell me what the difference is?

yes install clean open non HD

Memory issues with the now ancient VU+ Duo1 usually mean you need to set up a swap file on your HDD or USB.

I am now on the normal 080 and all the plugins i want are installing.

A real shame as i really like the hd version

One thing I noticed before moving over to HD was the openwebif was updated, but after updating to openvixHD, it seems to have been downgraded.

Are the 2 versions not consistent with each other in this respect?

The first Duo and the best.
Loyal, works perfectly, never had any issues with mine since day one, over 3 years.
I do clean mine out wiht hoover etc every 6 months and keep it clean.
And mine is running the HD openvix without any issues :thumbsup:

there is apparently a minor difference in code to allow some of the hd image to run properly but all features and drivers should be the same.

there is a lot of code changes to make HD work. not minor.

other than that, they are both the same apart from some default settings which ive changed to alter the look.

webifs should be the same unless some commits were made during the build process in which case some machines might have the updated files and some not.

Well after a good few hours of running it, I LOVE IT.
HD version working perfectly.
I do only use cache flush and swapfile (On hard drive).
Picons (Manaully installed) and EPG on my external usb pen drive.
So glad i came to have a look.
My Loyal DUO is rejuvenated

thanks for the HD build - appreciate all those driver changes and backwards compat issues will have been a big coding effort - thanks for sorting it. Just online upgraded to HD build 88 on a Solo-2 with no issue at all (other than keeping my little *.xml file for SD to HD channel swap down under providers dir in /usr/lib/e*2/p* .... so as ABM builds my regional selection right for mixed HD FTA and SD )
As FoxyLady just said, great stable build now at -088. All running off internal flash-RAM or installed HDD with no swapfile configured and no memory issues with ABM or CrossEPG for weekly updates.
To answer an early question - I skipped a few pages so apologies if someone else has - the HD build provided by Rossi (to me) looks so much more modern and visually appealing than the original one - transparency is better and menu responses are quicker. Backups and Updates also appear quicker but as I understand it the underlying Linux OE is the same so that might be perception.
