I believe 010 can be flashed from the box. It was 009 that needed clean install

If you already have flashed 09 to your receiver then you can use the online update to 10

If on 009, you can perform an online update to 010. You do not have to flash (by USB or Image Manager)

The usual thing is to perform online updates. Only in some circumstances, you need to do a flash with both restores/flash with no plugin restores.
