[VU+ Duo] faulty duo?

hi everyone I think my duo might be dead. over the last week it has been crashing when I have two programs recording at the same time then last night when I got home from work I had a red light and starting on the front display. I don't know if this is related or a separate issue.

I have searched through the forum and it seems this is a fairly common thing with the duo. so far from the info i have gathered I have tried

turning on with external hard drive not plugged in
leaving unplugged all day today then turning on
flashing the box with the latest bootloader

still no joy just a red light and starting on the display. this is definitely not a clone, was bought from world of satellites in December last year. has anyone got any other suggestions?

please help im at a loss

Have you tried unplugging the power, waiting about 5-10 minutes, then plugging it back in... Should stop the red light and "starting" message...

I unplugged it this morning when I went to work so it was off for 11 hours still had the same message. I've just got it to recognise the boot loader now though and it is going through flashing the new image so fingers crossed this should get me up and running again. do you know if this is signs of a faulty box and more problems might come off the back of this as I have only had it 4 months?

i had same issue months ago with a much older box,few caps were gone and dry joints,surprised you got this problem so early in life.

Well I'm up and running again, I managed to get the boot loader installed and then reflashed with a new image then set up like it was a new box. Can one of the mods confirm that this fault could be caused by faulty capacitors and dry joints as this box is only 4 months old and I don't want to have to keep reflashing if this is going to keep happening.

It may well be that your image became corrupt and caused this, but I would say it's too much of a coincidence that it gives the same warning signs as the capacitor issues...

My duo (which is about 3 years old, maybe older now) still has this issue. But, shutting it down and removing power for about 2-3 mins and turning back on, always seems to resolve it... Altho I don't have the box any more, it's at my mums, but she hasn't complained of it dying completely!

VU have since replaced the offending capacitors on newer versions of the Duo, for surface mounted versions to prevent the old red light of death due to the caps failing.

Any idea when this happend to enable decision on buying another duo

over a year ago as far as i'm aware, although the sponsor would know for sure, easiest way to know for sure would be to ask for a photo of the area in question, I did see some on the net a while ago but that thread was on another forum and has since gone walkies.

Well hopefully it was just the image and I have one of the later duo's. It's still working well up to now I guess I'll just have to keep an eye on it. Thanks for the replies
