[VU+ Uno4K] Flash memory full/0, can't access with telnet, password error. Password change doesn't work

I'm not 100% sure about build number, this is from my VU+ but the problem is at my father-in-law, we bought the boxes at around the same time.

I have my flash memory with 3,5GB total and 2,7GB free. In his box I the free is 0GB. I tried to download a cache clearer from addons but I didn't get that to work. Then I tried to Putty into it to see if I can manually clear any temp folders or something but neither telnet nor SSH works, it gives me a password error. Tried with root and root, root and 123456 (that he said he would have put there if it in the initial setup would have asked for one) and also tried with root and nothing/blank password, doesn't work. I tried to go into the box settings Menu - Settings - Network - Password, put a new password, hit green button, box says password saved but still doesn't work with that password. Tried to power cycle after password change but that has no effect.

OpenWebIF works without password or login.

Any ideas how I could try to solve this problem? Flash a newer software? Does that work when it says no space left? There is a 1 or 2TB HDD in the box.

The question is why has it filled flash? …..so likely some plugin or loads of bouquet entries from some iptv provider (that are never used) - so once fixed that needs to be resolved.
If no password then you can normally setup initially with putty and login with root & blank passord. Then use passwd (typed like that) to set one.

I assume as well that filezilla into box doesn,t work using root and blank password?
Maybe try and list installed plugins (long press blue button) and yellow button (user installed plugins) and then we can see if they can be deleted if not required.

So 1st use vix plugin ( blue button) and backupmanager to backup settings - hopefully that will work.
If that works then try an online flash of latest image using Imagemanager - if that works then you can restore settings on first boot.

If that doesn,t work then back to basics, usb flash

If not already running Vu multiboot, I would suggest that you say Yes on first boot and then wait for it to reboot(a couple of minutes) and ask if you wantt to restore the settings backup

Thank you for your ideas, I will try them next weekend when I visit them the next time. Mother-in-law does have a lot of scheduled recordings, does those get saved to internal flash? She has like hundreds of automatic schedules set.

The recordings are on the HDD, not internal flash memory. Autotimers create timers. Timers are what do the recordings. Those two xml files are on internal flash in /etc/enigma2/ but will be backed up when you create a settings backup. A settings restore after you flash the new image should restore them.

I was at my father-in-law today and got it working. He had done factory settings, that hadn't helped the original problem, he still couldn't add autotimers or anything. But that factory settings helped so that now when I set the password in the menu it worked, first I tried FTP and that worked. Then I also could access via telnet with the same password as set in menu.

Found out that the problem was that the device had saved four timeshift programs in the root ./ folder. One was 2,3GB, it was from August this year. The three others was from 2021, so it has been a really random problem. First I transfered them to the computer with FTP as backup, deleted them from the folder root and now the box shows 2,7GB free

EDIT: I've also have selected wrong box in the post title, we have VU+ Uno4K boxes if any MOD wants to correct it
