hard drive spinning

the hard drive is spinning all the time that the box is turned on - can you tell me what uses the drive - i have put a usb stick in the back for the epg to be stored in, and set it up so.

Ok dont quote me on this but I use a PVR drive on my miraclebox mini which is designed to to shut down when not in use, there is also a setting in vix but I dont know if it will work with a non pvr hdd. As I said dont shoot me if I am wrong bit of a noob.. well bloody big noob really.
The only reason I found this out was because I ordered wrong drives for pc and could not understand why took so long to start reading from them. and also could not install os on them. Hope this helps a bit.
