Hi All,

A Friend of mine recently got an F5S, seems to be pretty simple plug and play piece of kit.

I pretty much decided i "needed" one there and then.

Theres a few things i'm not too keen on, firstly the only been able to record a program while your watching it, and the epg downloading seems a bit of hard work too, saying that £80 with a years subs seems cheap as chips.

I've never had satellite so will need to put a dish up as well, I've also been looking at the VU+ Duo's though i'm not entirely sure how they work and what channels you can get and how you go about it, can anyone point me to a guide, hopefully that's not breaking any rules?

I'm ok with computers but by no means a programmer or anything like that, if anyone could point me in the right direction as to what system would be most suitable and cost affective (within Reason £300ish), somehting with a built in media player that would play AVI, MP4, MKV etc . . . would be a huge bonus!

Also what kind of dish should i be looking at and what should i budget for this supplied & installed?

Thanks All!

You are getting in dangerous territory talking box's that include subs we don't like that kind of thing round here, but Google is your friend with that one!

the Vu duo is a good box but does have its faults and some better things out there for the £300 mark, i have a TM-twin that is a similar box and never had a problem with it.

a detailed guide for setting a box up free to air or with a legit sky card can be found in my signature.

if i where you i would stay away from those £80 boxes as you really do get what you pay for!

i have a vu+ solo2 and this is a great piece of kit for under £300 from WOS. any normal satellite fitter should be able to fit a normal sky dish, but cost may differ, example if you want one feed or two from the lnb. use vix image and cross epg etc and you'll be fine.

f5s are poor for epg etc, there good to watch channels and thats it.

on this forum theres set up guide will support you and they are spot on.

as josh_g says look at his signature

Thanks for coming back to me, knowing there are setup guides and plenty of support has put my mind at ease.

I'll spend some time reading through them all and check i understand it to a level where i am willing to part with the cash.

The plan is to buy a dish that is capable to run 2 boxes so once im up and running i can put one in the bedroom, a quad LNB should do it from what i understand, not sure where the diameteres and mesh as aposed to solid come in but thats just a case of looking through the forum.

Thanks for the help, it's given me a head start!

Cheers!!
